Lotus Sanitizing System

The lotus Sanitizing system infuses water with super-oxygen, in the all purpose sanitizing bowl included with the system, to reduce bacteria and pesticides on foods. You can also use lotus to infuse water in the included spray bottle attachment and sanitize surfaces with one of the lotus microfiber cleaning cloths also included with the system.

A wonderful product, September 17, 2006
Reviewer: Florida MD "Florida MD" (Florida) - See all my reviews
I am a physician and a homemaker. I am always looking for safe, effective, easy ways to clean. This product has been the answer for me in the following ways:

1.) Washing fruits and vegetables. Now I am finally following Rachel Ray's advice to wash everything when I bring it home from the grocery store. I pile in as much as the bowl (included with the system) will hold and rinse it briefly under the faucet to remove loose dirt. Then I fill the bowl with cool tap water and place it on the base. As I write this, I am processing 5 avocados, 4 tomatoes, and 2 peaches in the bowl. The cleaning cycle takes about 4 minutes, then you leave the produce in the water for another two minutes. The base unit counts down the time so you know when you're done. Finally, I use the bowl's lid, which has a built-in strainer, to drain the bowl.

There are a number of advantages to this method of washing produce. For me, the most important one is that I know that the produce is truly clean when the final beeper goes off. In the past I was never sure when I could stop rinsing my produce. This method is also a time-saver, since I can wash quite a bit of produce in each batch, and I can do other things while it is processing. Washing the produce when I bring it home from the store also makes it last longer, because the bacteria which cause decay are destroyed. Additionally, when I drain the water from the bowl into my sink, the super-oxygenated water helps to sanitize the sink. Finally, I don't have to wash the bowl, because it is sanitized with each use.

2.) Sanitizing my kids' orthodontic retainers, and the family's various toothbrushes, nail clippers, nail files, etc. I use the bowl for this. I wish I had had this when my kids were babies, because according to the instruction book it can be used to sanitize pacifiers, baby toys, and other baby paraphernalia.

3.) Sanitizing my kids' shower shoes and gear when they get back from camp or a field trip. I use the spray bottle, which is included with the system, for this. First I rinse the gear in my utility sink or with the hose outside. Then I fill the spray bottle with cool tap water. I place the bottle on the base, and start the processing cycle which takes about 2 minutes. Then you have 15 minutes to use the super-oxygenated water, after which it starts to break down into oxygen and water. The base unit counts down the 15 minutes, so you know when your time is up. I spray everything and let it dry in the sun.

There are several advantages to this method of sanitizing gear over my old way of using bleach and other cleaners. First, it is extremely effective. Second, there is no residue left on the gear (again, the super-oxygenated water breaks down into oxygen and water), so there is no rinsing. And third, I do not have to wear gloves.

4.) Cleaning my refrigerator inside and out. I use the spray bottle for this. I especially love the fact that no residue is left in the refrigerator, and there is no odd cleaning-product smell either.

5.) Kitchen countertops, sink, and cabinets. I have an under-mounted sink, and the thought of all the bacteria growing in the space between the countertop and the sink used to really bother me. In the past, I would fill my sink with hot water and bleach, but now I use the spray bottle. It is quick and easy, requires no rinsing, and there is no bleach smell or concern about getting bleach on my clothes. Plus there is a strong environmental benefit to avoiding bleach and the plastic bottles that bleach comes in.

6.) Bathrooms. In the past I used cleaning products that smelled terrible and that warn you to only use them in a well-ventilated area. It made bathroom-cleaning a dreaded chore. Now I use the spray bottle, and the job is quick and easy. I live in Florida, where mold and mildew are a big problem in the bathroom. We have had a particular problem with mildew growing in the toilet tanks (up where the flush mechanism is). This has been difficult to keep under control in the past, because bleach damages the rubber portions of the flush mechanism. The super-oxygenated water has not caused any damage, but has been extremely effective against the mildew.

I like the fact that no residue is left behind on surfaces, and the bathroom is truly sanitized. I will also note that although I have arthritis in my hands, the spray bottle is easy to use.

Other reviewers have mentioned getting an error code when trying to use the Lotus system. I have also had error codes in two situations, but I figured out how to deal with them.

The first error code I have encountered occurs when there is no water in the base. During processing, water circulates between the base and the attachment you have chosen (either the bowl or the spray bottle). Between uses, clean water remains in the base unit. However, when you are first starting out, or if you have emptied the base unit, it takes time to get water into the base unit. This is when I have had an F4 error code. I remove the attachment, fill the blue reservoir on the base with water, and then put the empty bowl on the base unit. Using a large measuring cup, I pour cool tap water directly over the valve system in the bottom of the bowl to get water to go through the valve into the base. Then I turn on the processing cycle and see if it will go. If not, I repeat these steps until it does. Normally you do not have to worry about this, because clean water will be left in the base between uses.

The second situation where I have encountered an error code is when washing fruits that shed tiny seeds or hairs, such as raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and kiwi. I belive that there must be a sensor in the base that reads the water as dirty, and halts the processing. Even when I pre-rinsed these fruits, I still got an error code because you can't get rid of all the tiny seeds and hairs. I dealt with this situation by emptying the "dirty" water out of the base. Next, I get clean water into the base as described in the previous paragraph. Then I put clean water in the bowl and process it in the usual way. At the end of the processing cycle, I remove the bowl from the base and add the fruit to it. I let the fruit sit in there for two minutes before draining. This way, no seeds or hairs circulate through the base to create problems. This is actually the method that the instruction book suggests for meat, poultry, and seafood.

I highly recommend this product, and plan to give it to family members as Christmas gifts. Please note that I am not associated in any way with the company that makes this product.

Seriously, this shld be at the top of every persons Christmas list! I ordered the Lotus Sanitizing System thinking I'd try but not expecting huge results... WOW I'm AMAZED! I shld have taken before and after pics! My 2 y/o's little chair was stained sooo bad and I had tried several different cleaners to no avail- stains included crayons, juice, water spots, etc into this chair- I was a bit miffed b/c it was a pretty expensive little piece of furniture. Well I sprayed on the ozonated water and wiped it off and the chair looks brand spankin new! It also took off a spot on my couch that I was going to call the manufacturer about and have the couch replaced (it has the scotchguard but still stained). I'm just in shock- it's simply amazing! This thing will save me tons of $ on cleaning supplies and replacing rugs, upholstery, etc. I have yet to try it on food but we will this week. You seriously have gotta see this thing clean something- for us it will pay for itself by a year easily. Plus you don't have to worry about the kiddos, or you, touching chemicals b/c it turns back into water after 15 minutes.

This product works like nothing I've ever used before! It cleans and even deodorizes using just water! It even takes care of my very smelly dog! I have also used it to clean my blackberries and they tasted great! The last but most important use I have for this is that it has cured my athletes foot. I soak my foot in the water and the redness and itching are gone. The ozone must kill the fungus!!! I love using something that is chemical free because in our world it is important to eliminate all things toxic ASAP!

I am very impressed with the customer service and support offered. I received an email promptly to my questions about the error codes that I was receiving and also spoke to Gina from customer support. She was always very helpful and courteous. Tersano sent me a replacment unit and picked up my faulty unit without a fuss. Now this is what I call great customer service. I ended up buying one for my parents-in-law as well. Thank you Tersano.

I was impressed, first, with how quickly the product arrived. Wow!

I've tried it a few times now, and it sure seems to do what it's supposed to do! I sprayed it on my husband's coffee mess on the counter, went to do something else, and when I came back, there were only a couple places where the water was coffee-colored! I expected it to clean, but I was surprised it removed the brown! The counter was nice and clean and unstained, too.

Next, I tried it on the microwave. (Hubby gets coffee up there, too!) Again, it lightened all the coffee colors and when wiped dry, it really shone!

So I tried it on the front of the microwave, and it made a nice shine there, too. No way it would have looked that good with just plain water!

I run a ferret shelter in my home. I have over 40 of the little darlings in cages in my living room. Since it's a shelter, I end up with pooping in unauthorized places (they tend to mark territories). I sprayed the area, and not only did it clean it, it seemed to actually dissolve the poo! Much easier to do, smells much nicer, and with no nasty chemicals, either.

I've been using Parvo-Lan (now called Ken'l-lan) and that's a heavy-duty chemical. It kills all sorts of germs -- something critical to avoiding a shelter full of sick ferrets. I've been concerned for a while, since the ferrets tend to like to "help" when you're cleaning and end up running through the Parvo-lan I spray on the floor. If they lick their feet, they could be ingesting some really dangerous chemicals.

With this system, if they run through the liquid, it isn't going to hurt them! They don't tend to lick their feet dry right away, and I'm sure most of it's turned back into water by that time.

I'd hoped for a safer way to clean, and ended up with a better way to clean!

Now, if I can just convince the lady who cleans for me to use it instead of the bleach!!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for that feedback! Keep in mind, even in its most active form, lotus water is perfectly safe and won't harm your ferrets if they were to lick their feet. As for your cleaning lady, I have the same issue with some friends and I'm the inventor! Eventhough you show them that lotus water is 50% more powerful and 3000 times faster acting than bleach...its actaully more powerful than hydrogen peroxide...they just can't seem to break the habit. It's like smoking, the smell of bleach is addictive to some people, eventhough it is not nearly as strong as our lotus water. Oh well...and...thanks again!

I received your sanitizing system as a Christmas gift and I love it. I think that you read my mind when you invented this product. Ever since I was pregnant with my son and even more so since his birth I have avoided all chemicals in my home and anywhere else for that matter; also I have always washed my fruits and vegetables with soap and water before consuming them to remove any dirt etc.. In light of the recent ecoli and salmonella outbreaks that have occured from consuming fresh fruits and vegetables, I have found your product to be a life saver. I clean my childs toys, cups and eating areas without fear of harming him in the least. I clean my fruits & veggies knowing that they are safer than just rinsing or even washing w/ soap. I have a couple of questions about the system: when I place my produce in the bowl, most things float which leaves about half of the item not touching the water through the sanitizing cycle, so if I just spray my produce using the water that has been processed in the spray bottle which allows me to cover the entire surface with water, will that be as effective as placing them in the bowl and putting them through the process? and if so how long should I let the produce sit after I have sprayed them? My second question is,I place potatoes in the bowl that have been peeled first and I ALWAYS get an F4 message even when I change the water 3-4 times. Is this because of the starch that accumulates in the bowl? or is there another reason? Thank you very much.

I had the pleasure of testing the Lotus Sanitizing System for use in my home. I am asthmatic and have several allergies one of them being dust. I found the system very easy to use and extremely cost effective as you use your own tap water…no cleaning products whatsoever therefore, no chemicals.

I used the product in the kitchen, bathrooms and bedroom. I found it amazing that everything in bathroom shined the same if not better than using abrasive cleaners. On a normal morning, I would usually wake up sneezing. Since using the Lotus System, I have not once sneezed at home. I found that after cleaning my bedroom furniture, the dust did not adhere to it as quickly as it would have with my conventional cleaning methods.

I truly believe this product will help alleviate my allergy and asthma attacks.

The Lotus sanitizing system is a wonderful modern machine for sanitizing! That said, I was wondering if I can use the Lotus water to clean the inside of my home water distiller? The inside of the unit is stainless steel, with a rubber/silicone seal at the top or the two piece unit. I wanted to boil a small amount of Lotus water inside of the unit to disinfect the stainless cooling coils, and other parts of the apparatus that are hidden. My concern is the reaction of the boiling ozonated water with the steel and possibly the rubberized seal. Regardless of your answer, thank you for inventing this high tech machine, and offering it at an affordable price! Best regards, Marty. p.s. I just used the Lotus water on my shower door, and it removed a layer of soap film that I could not get off with harsh chemical cleaner! Wow!

Anonymous said...

Marty, thanks for the great feedback on how you are using the lotus system! The lotus water could be used to sanitize the inside of your distiller without harming any of the components. I use it (my wife does actually) to clean all of our stainless steel appliances around the house and it works great when used with the cleaning cloths. However, with the water boiling it will actually break down the super-oxygen in the water quicker and the lotus water will probably loose it's effectiveness quicker than the recommended 15 minutes. I don't know distillers too well, but is there a way to circulate the water through it without turning the heating element on? Then I would say for sure the lotus water will sanitize and disinfect the inside of that unit. I'm sorry for letting the sales side of me come out now, but did you know we had a Water Treatment System based on the same technology as the Sanitizer?
Well, thanks again and let us know how it works out for you.

Thanks for the advice Steve. I successfully used the Lotus water to sanitize my water distiller! I boiled a few ounces of water inside the unit, and in a matter of a few minutes, the lotus water circulated through the system and was discharged from the drain spout. It still had the characteristic ozone smell, so I am convinced it was able to destroy any mold spores and heat resistant bacteria that were trying to colonize inside the pipes. There was absolutely no harm to the seals, plastic, or steel. The Lotus water is the ideal solution for cleaning things that you might not want to use chemicals or soap and water on. I am finding new uses for it everyday! The latest is as a room freshener. I simply spray a fine mist on the furniture, walls, and in the air. I leave the room for a few minutes, and when I return, the room smells fresh and clean without any pet or tobacco smells! This is one of the few products that I would describe as a miracle! Thanks again, and for those that read this, I am not in anyway affiliated with the company. I am a huge fan of this appliance though, and I think it will just be a matter of time before there are Lotus products in every household. Best wishes, Marty R. Denver, CO, USA.

I have a comment and a question. But first, I want to say I love the sanitizing system so much that I just purchased the water treatment system! I can't wait to get it! Our family drinks gallons of bottled purified water in the summer and I think the system will pay for itself in no time.
Now for my question...When I get an F1 error on the sanitizing system when processing (any) veggies, if it stops at 96%, I just restart the system and let it run until it reaches 4% and then stop the process. Is this the same 100% becterial/pesticide removal as if I reprocessed the food from the beginning? Sometimes after processing food twice I still get the F1 error. My thinking is that 96% is better than 0%. What do you think?
Oops! Just one more question...You made reference to a lid to hold down the food during processing, will I be able to purchase one soon? How do I go about getting one? This may be helpful with my F1 errors.

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately, I have to answer this question with a question. An F1 code simply means that the system was not able to rid whatever you were processing of 99.99% of the contaminants. When you got this code, did you dump out the water and restart the system with a new batch of cold water in the bowl? We do this because we find it processes a lot quicker than if we just leave the system with the same water in it. We had it this way in the past and found that sometimes it took 20 minutes before the system reached 100% but this way the system stops after 8 minutes, you change the water and then it should only take the minimum 4 minute cycle to complete.
Very occasionally, and usually with grapes or strawberries, do you ever find that you need to change the water a second time and process again for a third time. The beauty of the F1 code is that you can compare how long it took for your produce to be sanitize from one grocery store when compared to another. You will see a difference and start shopping more at the one where they process through the system in the minimum 4 minutes every time.
That piece that will hold down your fruits and vegetables should be available in a couple of weeks. Just call our customer care line at that time and they will send one to you free of charge. We also feel this additional piece will help because it will stop consumers from overfilling the bowl with produce. As of now, we have no way of telling consumers what the right level to fill with produce is, only how much water to top it all off with.
Thanks, hope this helps? Oh yeah, and enjoy your Water Treatment System!

I bought the Lotus Sanitizing System as a present for my mother. She said that it is the best present she has ever received. She uses it all around the house. From the kitchen to the bathroom. She could believe the "miracles" this product was able to accomplish. Thank you, Lotus, I owe you one.

In preparation to purchasing the Lotus Sanitizing System, I reviewed as much as I could and I have a few questions I hope you could answer. First, are the different unit attachments; toothbrush bowl and baby bottle bowl interchangeable with the original lotus system or do we need to purchase the bases for these bowls to work? Second, Any better date for the lid attachment? Third, what is the warranty? Thanks J.O. in Minnesota.

WoW! Just saw Donnie Deutch last evening on cnbc. Somehow I had missed the Lotus systems! We eat alot of baked potatoes, w/ skin on and this will be perfect before cooking them! Aside from all the other areas of the house.

We are also BIG bottled water drinkers, we just purchased a water cooler last year and are lugging the big 5 gallon jugs back and forth. Whew! I hope I'm assuming correctly, that we can run regular tap water through the Lotus water system and then fill up our jugs (I'm thinking of cutting out a large hole in the bottom of one of them so I can fill it using the pitcher) and and still use the water cooler to dispense and keep it cold?

With Earth Day comming up this is Soooo GREAT to have found!!! Congratulations! And thank you!

With the lotus Sanitizing System, the same base unit accepts ALL of the current and any future attachments. Besides the toothbrush and baby bottle attachments we will be unveiling a wetmop attachment soon that will allow you to clean and sanitize your hardwood and ceramic tile floors chemical free with washable cloths so that you are not throwing out those disposable 'diapers' with the currently available wetmop systems.
At last check, the lid attachments were on a ship enroute to our warehouse. Should be ready to ship out to you in another couple of weeks if you purchase the system today.
Currently the warranty is one year. In our facilities we life test these systems to the equivalent of 7 years. There are no replacement parts besides the booster cartridge and we have an excellent customer care crew if you run into any problems whatsoever.
Thanks for your interest!!

Yes, our Water Treatment System is your own in-home bottled-water factory...using just tap water!! You are definitely doing a great deed to stop purchasing bottled-water as we all realize how environmentally unfriendly this convenience has become.
Thanks for your positive feedback and enjoy your lotus!!

I saw you on Donnie Deutch the other night and was so impressed with this product and plan on purchasing this weekend. You mentioned that a floor mop attachment is going to come out soon. Can the floor mop attachment be used on stone floors - I have tumbled marble and limestone floors? Also, is this effective on mold/mildew in basements?

Thanks

Anonymous said...

I've been fortunate enough (for some reason...haha) to be able to use the WetMop around my own home and I can say...okay my wife can say...that the mop works great on our limestone and slate floors. I also know that if you ever get a good stain on the grout that the lotus water will be the most effective way to clean it.
As for mold and mildew, once again I can speak from my own experience. In my last home we had a cold cellar that had a ton of mold and mildew in it. Before we sold it my wife tried all kinds of chemicals (naughty word) to rid the porous concrete walls of this nasty black stuff....of course, this is just about when I brought the first prototype of the Sanitizing System home so we tried the lotus water on the walls and presto...along with a little bit of elbow grease and the green cloths...all gone!! Afterwards, we would occasionally mist the lotus water in the air just to make sure none of it grew back, and it never did.
Thanks for enjoy your lotus!

I love my new water treatment system as much as the sanitizing system! No surprise to me though, I expected to after reading your customer feedback. I have a new question! I am using the sanitizing wash in the spray bottle so much that I keep wanting to use it even more! So the question...do you know how effective it would be to spray on my rose bushes to kill aphids?

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the great positive feedback!!
As for the question on your roses, I will have to get one of many florists using the product to answer that one as I do not know the answer myself. Hold tight and keep watching this blog.

I have a question re processing fruits and vegetables in the sanitizer. I read that in addition to killing bacteria etc. it removes pesticides. I can get my mind around how it kills bacteria but can't understand how it would remove pesticides.

Anonymous said...

By super-oxygenating the water we are creating a natural oxidant. As a natural oxidant the water is able to break the chemical bonds of pesticides down to harmless natural elements. We have had testing done in at least three different labs around the US and have found that we can eliminate 70% to 99.9% of pesticides...depending on the brand...and in each case we tested the water in the bowl and found absolotely zero residual (or anything else harmless) left in the water. Super-oxygen (ozone) is an amazing thing when saturated into water...I made this same discovery myself four years ago as we were working on a better way to kill germs around our homes and offices, and I learn more and more everyday on how well it really works. Recently we even heard that the lotus water works great on athlete's foot, planter's warts, gingivitis and some other bacterial/viral related health issues. I know, off on a tangent, but we need to hear more comments from people that are using the system outside of the uses that we have recommended....thanks!!

I have worked at Albright Manor for eighteen years in the housekeeping deptartment. I have used numerous chemicals over the years without thinking of the long term effects of ingesting the fumes which go along with working with chemicals. We have changed products over the years to keep up with the change and advancement of "better" usage of these products. Two weeks ago your sales rep. "Chris" came to our facility to demonstrate the Lotus Sanitizing System. I was very impressed with his presentation of the product but until I used the system I was a bit sceptacle. I have used this product for two weeks at Albright Manor and have never been so impressed with the simplicity of the concept and the marvelous way that it cleans and sanitizes our residents bathrooms. The porcelain fixtures, faucets, counter tops immediately shine and sparkle. I have'nt been so excited about the use of any product in the eighteen years I have worked in long term care. The best part is that it is WATER!!!!!!! Everything I touch is smooth and clean after very little effort. My job has been made so much simpler and I feel that I am finally able to take a deep breath and know that there isn't any chemical in the air! I hope that we will be able to continue using the Lotus to keep a clean and bacterial free environment, chemical free for our residents to live in. I know we are just testing the system and there would be some more convienient ways to implement the Lotus unit for Long Term Care but I am going to do my best to work it into my days routine so that we can continue to use this product.
I asked permission from my supervisor to bring it home on Friday night and return with it on Monday morning to try it in my home. I have cleaned all my glass and mirrors, gas range bathroom and everything is sparkling. My husband has not seen me so excited about cleaning house in a very long time, especially on a Friday evening. I took the bottle and cloth to my girlfriends house and demonstrated in her bathroom also and she was extremely impressed with the product. I have been yelling from the roof tops to all my friends and family what a fabulous system this is! I thank you for introducing this product at Albright and am looking forward to being able to have the Lotus in my home. In the presentation from Chris he mentioned that the water reaches and excited level. I would like you at Lotus to know that I am "excited" about using this product! I thank you once again.

My son’s cat went missing over two weeks ago. She’s was returned home to us last night by a neighbor who found her hiding behind his washing machine in their garage. She was a mess- dirty, skinny, scared. She needed hugs and pets, but was so grimy and greasy I didn’t want to touch her. This morning it dawned on me- I ran the spray bottle through the cycle, sprayed some oxygenated water on the green cloth, and gave her a “sponge bath”. She enjoyed it very much, and is now clean and fluffy and huggable again.
Thank you Steve, from Tigra ;)

I got my unit last year in August for my birthday. I live in Houston, Tx and had seen the unit advertised at Sharper Image but at this time they were on backorder so I had my husbands family who live in St. Catherine Ontario go to the local store there and get me one and ship it to me. (I've always been persistent when I want something) I have had the unit now going on almost a year and have been so pleased with how it sanitizes everything and I use it to sanitize water before I pour the water in my brita container that I keep in the refrigerator. I have also used the water for mouthwash and to get rid of athlete's foot on my husband. I just recently did some research on the internet and read that rain has a great deal of ozone in it and that is why everything grows so much better after natural rain instead of piped water so I sprayed all of my plants outside with the water and they have never looked healthier. The rose bushes had a fungus on them and now they are fungus free. I thank you Steve, for inventing this wonderful machine.

Hello...

We just picked up the Sanitizing System yesterday.

The purpose was mainly for washing produce, because my girlfriend has myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and occasionally spends time in a neutropenic state, which means that her white blood cell counts are dangerously low. This leaves the patient very susceptible to infection, and normally requires that the patient avoid fresh produce specifically because of contaminants and pesticides. Now, I have read the literature on the system, and I have already experienced the cleaning power of super-oxygenated water...but is there enough confidence in the system to risk your life on how clean your produce will become? If I can start her back on a more well-rounded diet sooner, her chances of recovering from an upcoming bone marrow transplant sooner and more fully could be increased. If nothing else, being able to keep eating her favorite fruits & vegetables will improve her morale (which also aids recovery).

I had read some user feedback on Amazon.com (some of which I see duplicated here, but not all of it) suggesting that there have been scientific studies that might support my motives, but I need to be completely certain before relying on the product in this way - her life depends on it. Unfortunately Amazon.com no longer carries the product, so I have no way to contact the users who commented.

If not, well...I remarked after cleaning a couple of persistent carpet spots yesterday that the sanitizer is worth the money just as a cleaning product. It did not work as well on a spot on a favorite shirt; I suspect this is because the stain (ink) is "set" into the fabric too well to remove.

Which brings me to another question: what precautions, if any, are there about cleaning surfaces with some sort of finish? What would stop super-oxygenation from removing vernish from a wooden surface, for instance, or the printed part of a t-shirt as opposed to an accidental spaghetti sauce stain?

Finally, I am (another) frequent F1 sufferer. I don't think the unit has yet gotten completely through a cycle, even with the spray bottle. Our tap water is allegedly among the best in the country as far as how low the level of contaminants are, so I'm wondering if I have a defective or semi-defective unit.

Anonymous said...

Steve, we have done a lot of testing (all third party) and the EPA and I can tell you confidently that this product will remove 99.9% of bacteria and viruses like E-Coli, Salmonella and Listeria on surfaces that come into contact with the water in the bowl. When it comes to pesticides, the unit has been tested at four different labs around the country and we have found that we remove anywhere from 70 - 99.9% of a pesticide. There are so many brands of pesticides out there and we have only tested a dozen or so. The amazing thing we found was that we would test the water to see if all the pesticide ended up in the bowl but in all cases we found absolutely no residual of the pesticide in the water!! It is true, sometimes you will get an F1 which is just the units way of telling you that it will get to 100% quicker if you change the water in the bowl and start with fresh COLD water. This leads to my answer to another question of yours, if you get F1 in the spray bottle with cold water there is more than likely something not quite up to par with that particular unit....this is the beauty of the sensors in the unit as it gives you, the consumer, the confidence to know that the unit is always working properly. As a test, if you have some purified water, put that in the spray bottle and see if you still get an F1, if you do, please call our customer care at 1-800-808-1724 so that they can send you a replacement unit immediately. We have some of our test results here on our website but we can always provide additional information if you wish?
As for using the spray bottle as a spot remover on your shirt, it should have still worked even with the stain set in. I find that it works best if you take the trigger mechanism right off and pour the water on the stain. Next, of course, just follow up by washing as you normally would! My only experience is with grease on my shirts and I have found over and over again that it works better than with a chemical spot remover.
As for precautions, I would think the only thing you need to watch for is if the wood is porous. I haven't yet seen it take varnish off. As for your shirt, I haven't seen it do any damage yet, but maybe to be sure, test it out on an area that won't be visible...and of course, let us all know so that we don't make the same mistake if it doesn't work out!!
Thanks for your questions Steve and let me know what other information...or maybe tests...I can get for you so that you can feel safe about the produce you are preparing for your girlfriend.

Love this product. I purchased it a few weeks ago and it really delivers what it promises! I washed my windows this week-end as the weather was gorgeous and could not believe how they sparkle. We are so used to chemicals it is hard to believe water can do this. It took stains out of my son's school clothes that SHOUT did not take out. Really incredible. I was wondering, I have tinea versica (white dots that don't tan from a fungus) do you think I can spray the water on the areas of my skin that have the fungus living? Is it safe to do? What about skin tags that are virus' too...would it be safe to try that?

Anonymous said...

I don't know a thing about tinea versica but I do know that if you spray the lotus water on it, it will not harm your skin. I am curious if it will help actually? We have an example of a mother who's son had planter's warts and she claims that for a year she tried all kinds of medications and nothing worked until she dipped her sons feet in the lotus water. I know planter's warts are viral related so should work fine on skin tags....don't know until you try it I guess? We are definitely not here to make any medical claims but you would think that anything that is bacterial or viral related (skin surface) would be treatable with the lotus water. Please, let us know how using the lotus water turns out for you...and thanks!

I just bought my sanitizer last night 4/23/07 and went crazy trying to see how many different things I could treat with it.

I sprayed the inside of the microwave...walked away and left it for a few minutes and it came completely clean with a paper towel and very little elbow grease. The cooked on stuff just wiped right off!

I sprayed the mold in the shower, the dog bed, counter tops, toilets, door handles and my bedspread where the dog sleeps. All are sparkly clean and non-smelling!

My favorite discovery...I sprayed two separate times (it took that much)my favorite Reef flip flops. These flops always seemed to smell sour no matter how many times I've scrubbed or soaked them. It's like the rubber sole was trapping the bacteria causing the smell. They are odor-free and I'm wearing them right now!!

On a sad note...I got up this morning to run my produce. Before the first batch was finished processing...it was at about 89%...I got an "F7" error. I drained the food, refilled the bowl and started over. I got an "F4" error. I drained the base, put the filled spray bottle on the base and it holds 0% for 30 seconds then starts beeping "F4." I've unplugged it, let it sit for 5 minutes, refilled the bottles, reset the machine...everything and still the "F4" error. Help?

Anonymous said...

The F4 error is a result of you using paper towels to wipe rather than the supplied washable microfibre lotus cleaning cloths....just kidding!
The F4 is a function code to tell you that the unit is having problems priming itself. I am guessing that you drained the water out of the unit last night so it is trying to prime itself again. Please pour some water into the center reservoir to help get the air out and keep trying. We do supply that red cap so that you can plug this center reservoir when you go to store the unit. It is absolutely fine to leave the water in the base, actually, as you have learned, if you remove the water, it is that much more difficult to prime the unit afterwards as all the components are wet down underneath which somehow makes it more difficult to get the air out.
I hope this helps, if not, please call our customer care at 1-800-808-1724!

Is this product FDA or similar agency approved?

Anonymous said...

Yes, the product is EPA approved as a sanitizer for your produce and as a sanitizer on your food contact surfaces (EPA registration number is on the bottom of the box.) Also, super-oxygenated water (ozonated water) is an FDA and OSHA approved process. On the electrical side we have CUS. CUS also approves the units to ensure they don't emit excess ozone into the environment.

Steve,

After reading all the different ways everybody is using your Sanitizing System I was woundering if I could use it to clean leather seats and/or furniture instead of using a leather cleaner? This would save a lot of money since leather cleaners are expensive but I don't know if you system would end up removing more then the dirt out of the leather.

Either way thanks for a great product and I enjoyed your interview on The Big Idea.

Also, any time frame when you will be releasing the WetMop?

Anonymous said...

Sorry, asked around and no one has any experience with leather. Would you be able to test in a little corner? We have tested on vinyl to make sure that we don't damage any gym equipment over the long run and we will get a leather sample into our life testing so that we can answer this appropriately the next time the question comes up.
On the WetMop, we just started production and should have them available in about six weeks...I hope!!

This blog & product site blows me away. I love marketing, which means I’m skeptical. After reading it all, there’s this fascinating transformation that takes this hard core skeptic from a prove-it state of mind to a it-doesn’t-matter state of mind—just sell me some hope, I choose to believe! Great job Steve!

But I do want to know one thing: Can I use this super-charged water to remove coffee & tea stains from my natural teeth, as opposed to dentures—dentures, humm?

Anonymous said...

I love all the positive feed back! With a couple of blogs stating that Lotus sanitizing water has helped athletes foot, I'm wondering if it may be helpful on the psoriasis patch on my scalp. I haven’t purchased the product yet, just trying to think of another way to persuade my husband that I must have it!

I was also thinking about bringing the unit into my kindergarten classroom during the cold and flu season next year. What a great science lesson and the children would love to help spray. I would not even need to be cautious around the kids that may have asthma or allergies to strong chemicals.

Anonymous said...

Good question....my 15 yr. old son has dandruff....i was wondering if it would work if I sprayed it directly on the scalp to get rid of the fungus that is living there!!

Anonymous said...

You know, we have always wanted to see if it would remove even red wine stains but no one has ever gotten around to it. I know it is a good solution to use to help gingivitis so it won't harm anything in your mouth...are you willing to try to see what happens with coffee or tea?
As for dentures...definitely a great way to clean them!

Anonymous said...

Psoriasis and dandruff? I'm sorry, but I do not know. If they are bacterial, viral or fungal related...naw...sorry, can't make any medical claims being from the company but please give it a try and give us some feedback.

I saw your spot on Toronto's City News this evening. It was good to see your product on TV since I never see it advertised anywhere. It is available at Canadian Tire where I live which is Durham Region in Ontario, Canada, as are the drinking water purifier and replacement cartridges. I love your product. I've been using it since December. I have a question about the filter cartridges. If the cartridge needs to be replaced and I still run the machine through a sanitizing cycle, will it still work or will it give me any kind of indication that the filter should be changed? The reason I ask is it is very difficult to tell whether the indicator spot on the cartridge has turned green or not. I wouldn't want to think that I have processed the water when in actuality I haven't. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

The cartridge has a little window on the back. You have to check this occasionally and when the colour of the pellets (environmentally friendly) turns green, you need to switch out the cartridge, typically every 3 to 6 months. The unit will still function until you get a new cartridge, you just may find that it takes longer to get to 100%. Those pellets start out orange and turn a pretty dark green colour so it should be fairly easy to distinguish the difference. I will add, the beauty of this system is that the sensors are always checking the water and the unit will ONLY reach 100% if it has charged the water to the right level.

Hello, I wanted to know if the Lotus sanitizing system helps kill bugs on fruits. I own a lotus sanitizing system and I put some blackberry through the machine to help clean it. After I cleaned the fruit I noticed couple of small white bugs, the ones you sometimes see on orange/plants. I thought the lotus sanitizing system helps with bugs since it’s more powerful than bleach.?... I put the fruit in the machine again and ran it 2 more times while letting it soak more than 20 min at a time… haven’t seem the bugs again but still curious if the sanitizing system helps with bugs. If you can help me know that would be great, thank you.

Anonymous said...

Not sure about that one. I have been told by our food and agriculture expert that our lotus water should kill dust mites/bed bugs, but we haven't tested for this yet. I will pass this message on to him and wait to hear what he has to say.

I had a sewer back-up in my basement. The smell was unbelievable, I had almost gotten sick and I have a pretty strong stomach. After the clog and the excess water was removed the black soot-like material and smell was still there. It was then that I decided to use the Sanitizer for the disinfection of the surrounding floor. I wasn't thinking at the time about the smell, just that I wanted to disinfect the area. It cleaned the black soot-like material with no problem and as well the stench was totally gone! It was like there was never a sewer back-up in my house and I did it without chemicals!

What would happen if someone swallowed the charged water? Or if one gargled with it?

Rick said...

Hi seems like a great product. Would like to know if it would be good to spray on a cut to act as a antiseptic or sterilitic ,before using a bandaid or such?

Anonymous said...

We do not recommend drinking the water that is charged in the Sanitizing System. If, however, you were to drink it by accident, there are absolutely no emergency procedures to follow. You can definitely use it to gargle, even dentists are recommending using this product to help gingivitis as they currently recommend gargling with a bleach and water concoction.

As this charged water is more powerful than bleach and even hydrogen peroxide, it makes a great antiseptic to treat cuts prior to sticking a bandaid on...and no stinging sensation!

Anonymous said...

I bought the Lotus Sanitizing System as a present for my mother. She said that it is the best present she has ever received. She uses it all around the house. From the kitchen to the bathroom. She could believe the "miracles" this product was able to accomplish. Thank you, Lotus, I owe you one.

Anonymous said...

My water treatment system has profound bubbling during processing, while the sanitizing system is just an occasional small pin-head sized bubble at the bottom of bottle/bowl. Is there something wrong with my sanitizing system?

Anonymous said...

Nope, that is exactly what you want to see. We use two different processes for getting the ozone into the water with both systems. With the Water Treatment System, we bubble it in whereas in the Sanitizing System, we infuse it into the water in the base of the unit. What you are seeing is perfectly normal, as long as the sensors are getting to 100% then everything is working.

Anonymous said...

I recently purchased the lotus sanitizing system and have been really happy with the system. I am potting training twins and have been amazed at how the spray has completely removed #2 "accidents" on my carpet and couch. I have been using water from the large bowl to soak laundry before putting it in the washer. Does the water from the bowl have the same 15 minute time frame as the spray bottle?

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the great feedback! Yes, charged water in the bowl should also be effective for 15 minutes. With nothing in the bowl, you may even be able to use the spray bottle setting (only a 2 and a bit minute process) instead and then that way you get the timer on the LCD after it reaches 100%.

Anonymous said...

Reading through this has made me curious about the following: I am the amazed and happy owner of a sanitizing system, but as of now cannot afford the water treatment system. I do own several Brita filter pitchers, but worry about the bacteria. What if I use the fruit bowl to sanitize water, then pour it into the Brita pitcher, then wait an hour before drinking the water? Though it may not be as good, nor as convenient, as your water system, seems to me it would take care of any bacteria worries with the Brita, and might be a workable interim solution for me until I get your water system. Any thoughts?

Anonymous said...

Yes, you can do that. Our process will kill any bacteria and viruses in the water while the activated carbon will remove chlorine, lead and mercury. You actually won't even have to wait an hour, unless you want to chill your water, since activated carbon breaks ozone down so there should be no residual ozone left in the water once it has dripped through that filter. Definitely not as convenient as our Water Treatment System but a good interim solution!

On the subject of teeth: I have been conducting my own little dental experiment for the past week, and wanted to share my "findings": I am a 50 year old with a bit of recession and sometimes a touch of inflammation, but according to my dentist do not have gingivitis. With his conditional approval I have used the lotus water as a mouth rinse, and with great results. He cautioned me to use it for a couple of days, then not use it for a couple of weeks, for fear of overwhelming the delicate tissue. I have enjoyed such great results, I am now using it daily anyway! It has whitened my teeth noticably, removed most tea stains, calmed the inflammation which prompted this little experiment, and my teeth feel slick and clean like I just had them professionally cleaned.

Here is what I did the first day- held the water in my mouth for a couple of minutes, then flossed, then massaged my teeth and gums with the green cloth. Now I'm just rinsing quickly once a day, and brushing and flossing as usual, and my results are being maintained with no irritation.

Of course, one should check with their dentist (who may not know a thing about ozone), but I will keep this up, and hopefully keep all of my teeth longer because of it!

Wow,
We are so extremely happy with our Tersano water purifier and food cleaning unit!!!
It possibly the best and most important product we have ever purchased.
I work from home and take care of my 2 year old. I'm one of a small minority of Dad's that do this.
Of course I do all the cleaning and cooking for the family. I'm just starting to get over the fact that there are no suds or bubbles when I clean everything and freaks me out that this thing cleans everything so literally 'squeaky clean'. Truly happy about it's power -- and now I don't have to worry if I get the ozonated water on myself or my child's skin as opposed to bleach or just about any cleaning product on the market, not to mention ingesting it! Anyway ALL I ASK is that this message be directed to the folks at your company that will appreciate my glowing comments and genuine appreciation.

I say once again . . . WOW!
James

Honestly it is not cheap, but I cant wait to optain a unit.

Anonymous said...

Not expensive either, when you consider you won't be buying anymore cleaners and you will throw less produce out...

Anonymous said...

The lotus system is fantastic!! I want to tell EVERYONE I meet all about bacteria and how lotus destroys 99.9% and how terrible chemicals are to the body & environmnet....and on and on...

P.S. My body has less 'junk' to deal with so more time to focus on healing from training. YIPPEE!!!

Anonymous said...

There were some good questions accidentally put on the Water Treatment System side so I thought I should copy my answers here as well!
The LCD display on the system reverts to a 15 minute countdown timer, which is how long the 'charged' water is effective for as a sanitizer before the water has to be 're-charged'.
When it comes to fruits and veggies, there are sensors built into the base and the LCD will not hit 100% unless it has sanitized your produce. The system is so smart that it will actually tell you to change the water and run again if it cannot get to 100% in the first 8 minutes. It does this because we know that it can get to the 100% quicker with fresh clean cold water than if we let the system continue to run.
As a stain remover for laundry, the system works just as any other chemical product...soak the stain first and then place in the wash..presto!!
It is an amazing deodorizer. And it actually kills odour causing bacteria not just mask the smell!! Use it around the house on everything from hockey equipment to even your dog...it is that safe and effective!
Works on everything...as you said, not only on surfaces, but also on mirrors, hardwood floors, counters, showers, stains in carpets, and even on mold and mildew. You will never buy another cleaner again and not only will you be cleaning but you will also be sanitizing without leaving a single chemical (or other) residue. Why do people still want to smell vinegar, baking soda or even bleach for that matter????
Thanks for all the great questions!

Hello Tersano!
All I can say is wow!!! What a great product! I will definitely be getting all of my clients to order one so that I can clean all their homes and businesses without exposing myself to chemicals anymore!!
Thank you so much!!

I have highly recommended that Tersano seriously consider approaching the entire, very broad based North American Recreational Vehicle industry. Space under sinks in all RVS, be they trailers, camper, 5th wheelers or motor homes is always at a premium. Many RVers install very expensive, high maintenence water purifiers in their rigs. Absolutely every RV being sold, new or used, in North America should have BOTH of these terrific little Lotus companions in them. A wee bit of engineering a bracket to hold both units in place, next to sink areas and, VIOLA!...the RVer will have peace of mind regardless of wherever they travel, be it camping by a stream in the wilderness or traveling in Mexico, or in areas where we ALL know the ubiquitous little "floaters" swim freely in tap water, they will be Lotus safe. Use the Sanitizer and they will be happy little "Lotus Eaters" as well knowing their food is as safe as can be! Now that is peace of mind which will please every Lotus product customer for years to come. Trust me. I know this for a fact. I am currently living in a 20ft trailer and my life is way better with my Lotus gizmos than it could possibly be without them. THATS peace of mind.

Finally, put a calculator to the cost of ALL the "Evian" bottled waters we have all bought at convenience stores every where! Now imagine taking just 6 minutes to run a liter and a half of ordinary tap water through the Lotus, regardless of wherever you are. Thats less time than standing in line at a convenience store waiting to GIVE them $1 to $3 just for a drink of "clean" water! Sweet smelling tasty, tasty water, every single drop! And the same is true for the Sanitizer because you will fast become convinced hat not only will you become a "Lotus Eater" you will also become an ardent ambassador of sanitizing your home, your RV, your vehicle, your bathrooms and freshen the air you breath. I know of which I speak because I use my Lotus equipment 24/7! I took that "leap of faith" and am very glad I did!

I just received the product last week & absolutely love it!! My hysband (who is always skeptical about anything new) is quite amazed with the whole process. Currently we use a product that costs $6 a small bottle to clean around the kitchen. With this product, it'll be free! Love it. I especially love the fresh scent of the ozone.

Thank you for this product. I have no regrets about buying it.

Steve,
I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Part of my therapy is a 70% raw food diet and lots of fresh juices. The Lotus plays a critical part in that regimen. Many of the fruits and veggies are not always available as organic, so the Lotus is the answer to that dilemma.
How do I know when it's not working? I don't want to eat any pesticides.
Thanks for your help.

Anonymous said...

I am sorry to hear about your health!! Be strong and take good care of yourself!!
You can always be sure the unit is working properly as long as it hits 100% on the LCD. To get the best results, be sure to rinse your produce under the tap to get any debris off and then run through the unit as many times as it takes to get to 100%. You will find out quickly which produce is less contaminated. I know in our home my wife found the differences between grocers quickly. One grocers berries would go through in one cycle all the time whereas another ones would take 3 or 4 times before the unit could get to 100%. You can guess where she buys all our produce now!
Once again, take care and feel free to ask away about any other concerns you may have about how the lotus works!

Anonymous said...

does the whole bowl to be filled up with water, or is it ok to fill just halve off it, if i have only a few graps to clean for example?

Anonymous said...

Steve,
I have published a little research on ozone reactions and have two questions:
1, What is the ozone concentration that your Sanitizer can produce in water? Your service line only said 800-900 Osidat-on Reduction Potential. I could calculate this but do you already have a molarity or percentage figure to give me?

2. How do you generate the ozone?
Does the unit use a UV lamp or does it have an actual electrical discharge in air or in the water itself? [Water discharge is unlikely for safety reasons but there are industrial units like that.]

You system sound very innovative; I look forward to getting one.

W.C. Neely

Anonymous said...

Oops, fell a little behind here...still away with the family for a little break but I may as well try to answer a couple of these.

It is always preferred to fill the bowl to the max fill line with water while it is about half full with produce. If you are only putting a couple of grapes in then you can definitely save on some water and only fill to where you feel necessary. You will avoid F1 codes with more water though...

Anonymous said...

W.C. Neely,
Our sensors are set so that we get up over 900 ORP when we are charging the spray bottle. This way, we stay above 800 ORP even after the 15 minutes. We also measure Dissolved Ozone in the water (in our lab) and we produce around 2 to 2.5ppm of DO in the water. To saturate the water with ozone, we use corona discharge to create ozone from oxygen and then use a venturi device to get this to mix into the water.
Hope this helps!

Hi Steve, Evan here.
I have read all the comments to see if the questions i'm about to ask have been answered. I have not found any yet so far.. so here goes:
I have one of your sanitizing units and i like it very much. I have started to use the spray bottle (which is primarily used for cleaning around the house as your state in your manual) spraying the water on my face after cleansing, I spray all over my face, neck and my hair.. after the shower of course. I have read about celebrities such as Madonna use Oxygen Thearapy (expensive treatments) on their face, via spraying the oxygenated air directly at close range to their face, then end result a tighter, healthier more youthfull looking skin, less wrinkles etc. I thought why not use the 03 water your product generates to do almost the same thing... for free!. I have been doing this for 1 week now and it's doing wonders for my face... my question to you is this: can this be ok for my face? is this a good idea for my face, hair etc?
An idea for you.... put together a section in your manual on Health and Beauty Care using the 03 water.... it really works. try it everyone it really does.

Also for using the spray bottle in cleaning the house: can you develop a bottle/trigger mechanism that can be used sideways and at strange angles? Let me explain.... when i clean the house i don't always hold the bottle upright, when used at a different angle the spray bottle does'nt spray out water, common in all spray bottles... Please develop some way of using the spray bottle at ALL angles... that would truly be of help to everyone out there cleaning their home with your super water!. Call it the Spray Bottle that Defies Gravity!.. Great marketing eh Steve?
Sincerly, Evan.

Thank you Evan for your feedback. We always wanted to start a study to look into acne removal with our system. I do know they use O3 water in salons and spas for facial treatments but I'm not sure if they have had any studies done so that they can make health and beauty claims. There definitely will not be any harm done as O3 in water is perfectly safe.
As for the gravity defying spray bottle, we're on it!
Thanks!

I'm interested in buying the Sanitizing System but I am also interested in the Water Treatment System. Are these products interchangeable - Can I drink water from the Sanitizing System and clean foods or surfaces with water from the Water Treatment System? And didn't I see a toothbrush cleaning attachment last month?

Anonymous said...

There is a toothbrush attachment available. On our website it is separate but if you saw our infomercial you get that included for the same $149.99. The toll free number to take advantage of that deal is 800-901-9393.
There are differences in our two systems. The Water Treatment System includes a carbon block filter to remove further impurities. This two-stage process is the same process used by many municipalities and bottled-water companies to give you great tasting drinking water. This carbon block filter actually takes our 'charge' out of the water and hence the separate sanitizing system. To clean and sanitize around the home we want to leave as much charge in that water as possible. Since the Sanitizing System does not have the second stage carbon block filter you are still going to have chlorine and a few other impurities in that water that will not make it taste that good and we cannot recommend drinking that water. I always follow that up by saying that if you were to drink the water by accident, there are NO emergency medical procedures to follow either. But, like I said, it is not going to taste all that great at all. I believe someone else in the blog was pouring the water from the Sanitizing system through a Brita-like pitcher filter. This will work but we cannot guarantee any of our reduction claims when using our system this way.
I hope this helps? I never know if I am explaining this properly so feel free to write back if you have any other questions.

Anonymous said...

Oops...that was me that wrote that...hit the button too soon before I put my name on it!!!

I would really like more information about the mop that you have mentioned in the blog. How does it work, what are the features, how much does it cost, etc? I would like more info before ordering it. It was briefly shown during the infomercial, and now I want to know more!!!

Anonymous said...

It is a great mop, so much so that we keep selling out as quick as we bring them in! It has a removable container on it that allows you to charge the water on the lotus base unit. It lies perfectly flat so that you can get under all of your furniture easily. There is a single button to push with your thumb just off the ergonomic handle that dispenses the 'charged' water. And, of course, we sell it with our washable cleaning cloths specially designed to fit this mop so that you can wash and reuse. Works great wet or dry, so you can just dust your hardwood floors or clean and sanitize any hard surface. Keep an eye out, it is available as an upsell when you order through our infomercial, or if you call our customer care, they should be able to sell them soon also.

Anonymous said...

Just wanting to say how much I love my sanitizer. My original produced a leak, but customer service promptly sent a replacement. Obviously I would prefer something more durable.. but I understand that with a new product without a lot of expensive testing, we're part of the test market. As long as the purchase price is reasonable, the product is effective, and when falulty replaced promptly, why complain? Clearly, a refined unit that accomplishes what this unit does would cost considerable more that what our cost was.

The evolution of this product will get us there, and we're part of that exciting process. And maybe when the evolution is complete we'll get a special price for that new unit as a repolacement. Who knows?

RE: Blue wheel spinning: Most times my wheel does spin.. sometimes it doesn't. However, for those of you questioning the effectiveness of the process w/o the spinning wheel, I'd say use your nose! There's a definite ozone odor from the treated water. It it's there, the process is working.

This unit has remarkable uses. I've removed mineral make-up stains from my white robe that wouldn't budge with commercial stain removal, I'm winning the battle with fungus on nails, I've irradicated skin tags that we 'grow' with age, and I prolong shelf life of my vegies and fruit... all thanks to this product.

Thanks to Steve for it's development, and to Ashley in customer service. Your company is as stellar as your product.

Barb, USA

Anonymous said...

Thanks! Always great to hear how someone is using the product in different ways!
We have found in our own internal testing that if you have any produce in the center area of the bowl then the blue wheel will not spin so this is common but does not mean that the unit is not working. Those sensors are tested and true, the display will not get to 100% unless we charge the water to the right level.
Oh yeah, and keep the pats on the back coming...we need that every now and then!

Anonymous said...

From the pictures it appears that the bowl cannot hold that much produce. How big is the bowl? How much produce can be put in the bowl?

Anonymous said...

Depends on what you consider a lot. I believe the bowl will hold between 4 and 5 liters of water, but we only recommend filling the bowl half full with produce. You can fill it all the way, but your circulation won't be that great and it will definitely take longer to get to 100% complete. It will definitely hold a quart of strawberries. Depends on the size of the apples, but you can expect about 4 or 5 to fit at a time. In the amount of time it takes for you to organize yourself after you get home from the grocery store, you will have processed all of your produce through the bowl, that I know just from personal experience. Keep in mind, nothing else on the market lets you feel comfortable that you have removed bacteria, viruses or toxins to the sanitizing level unless it is the lotus. We have sensors in our machine that monitor the whole process so you don't have to. If it can't get to 100% it actually knows to tell you to change the water and run a cycle again as it will get to that sanitizing level faster with fresh cold tap water.
I hope I answered your question?

Anonymous said...

Why does produce need to run through a cycle to be clean, while poultry or other "big items" just need to sit in the water (following a cycle) for two minutes to be clean? What is the difference?

Anonymous said...

With produce, you usually get pesticides or other preservatives on them. These are what take the longest to break down. Our 'charged' water actually kills most bacteria on contact, so with meat, we would expect maybe Ecoli or Salmonella, both of which are quick and easy to kill.

Anonymous said...

For large leafy vegetables (such as romaine lettuce and bok choy), should I cut the greens and run through a cycle, or should I put as much of the leafy parts in the bowl for 2 minutes once the cycle is complete?

Anonymous said...

It is always more effective to have the product in the bowl while it is running the cycle. If they do not fit that well then I would resort to the 2 minute alternative.

Anonymous said...

Can the water from the system be used as mouth wash and gargelling?

Anonymous said...

I've never tried to use it as mouthwash but I don't see why you couldn't. I believe there was someone on this blog that mentioned that they were using it to cure their gingivitis (no medical claims on our part) but you would think it would work for sure - minus the minty smell.

Anonymous said...

I was wondering something. Can the water from the bowl be used for cleaning if I need a larger ammount than the spray bottle makes, as in if I wanted to use it to mop the floor from a bucket. Would it be the same strength as the spray bottle?

Hi Steve,

I just bought the Lotus sanitizing system last week and I really fell in love with it. My life has never been that easy. I have 6 bathrooms to clean and I used to clean each of them using 5-6 different cleaners, and I need to wear mask, goggle and gloves when I handled the cleaners, that took me almost one hour to clean them all. And now, I just use the spray bottle with charged water to spray and everywhere I go just become sparklingly clean, and it just takes me 15 mins. Now, I can afford to clean all my bathrooms everyday. I think this is not only the best invention of 2006 but also one of the greatest invention ever since. By the way, I do have some questions and would like to ask for your input.

(1) I would like to purchase more sanitizing systems for my family and they live in Hong Kong, do you have 220 Volts sanitizing system. If not, are you planning to make one?

(2) Of course I use the spray in my kitchen too, but I am not sure if I can spray my granite counter top because it has sealant on it to protecting stains from penetrating into the granite top. Is the charged water safe to the sealant which will not be removed? Do you have any comment on it.

(3) I learned that free oxygen molecules with unpaired electrons are free radicals, which can damage and age healthy cells and damage tissue by “stealing” electrons from healthy cells. . Does the charged water contain oxygen or ozone ions, or just pure oxygen and O3? I ask this because I would like to try the charged water on my skin.

(4) From your blog, some customers commented that the attachment which hold the fruit and vegetable from floating to the surface is too long. Do you have the modified one came out yet?

Thanks a lot!

Connie

Yes you can definitely use the water from the bowl for cleaning as long as all you did was put cold water in there, put it on the longer cycle (same as if you had produce in the bowl) and then let it get to 100%.
Actually, if you ever get a chance and read further on this blog, or maybe it was on another blog, but you can actually use this water to soak your feet and rid them of athlete's foot or even planter's warts...not that that has anything to do with cleaning your floors...just my two cents....

Anonymous said...

Connie,
Thanks for that great feedback!
We do have 220V systems but you would have to special order them through our customer care.
The charged water will not hurt the sealant, as long as you dry it right away.
I need to do some more research on the free radicals question but what I do know for sure is that aestheticians use O3 to rejuvenate the skin so our 'charged' water should work in much the same way. The beauty of ozone is that even though it kills bacteria and viruses, it leaves good or healthy cells alone. You can do searches on the web that will verify this statement as we do not make any medical claims at all at this time.
The wrong length produce retainer should be behind us and I believe next week we should have shorter versions coming over in containers. Sorry about that!!!

This is one of the seven wonders of our modern world.

I am using this device for cleaning almost everything around the home and office. There is no need to use cleaning chemicals (which are costly, messy and space consuming). This device prepares ordinary tap water to act as a cleaning and disinfecting agent.

The system temporarily creates water that is super-saturated with ozone (three oxygen atoms combined in one molecule). It takes some scientific background to understand, but, it is simple to use.

Here is how it works:

You fill the spray bottle with ordinary tap water. You place it on the unit and push it down onto the base of the unit. You tell the unit that it is a bottle (instead of the bowl) and turn it on. A minute or two later, the unit notifies you with an LED display that the water is ready. You can then spray the water in a fine mist on ANYTHING. It is non-toxic and non-caustic (except to germs and poisons) which can be "reduced" (Chemistry term) by the extra oxygen atom in the water.

After playing with the Labrador Retriever in a nearby river, her coat often smells from the bacteria in the river multiplying on her fur and skin. She was itching terribly. After she gets out of the water, I prepare a spray bottle of the "Lotus" water and cover her in a fine mist. There is no smell from her coat anymore after playing in the river. She has stopped itching. The super-saturated ozone water is completely safe for large living organisms like dogs and humans.

I sprayed Lotus water on the Labrador's bedding. Just a fine mist of three or four sprays. No more dog smell.

I like to keep fresh herbs and veggies at home. On getting home from the Natural Food store, I prepare a bowl of the Lotus water and immerse the herbs and vegetables in it for two minutes (the unit tells you when all of the microrganisms have succumbed to the ozone in the water). I immediately place them in a plastic bag. They keep almost indefinitely in the vegetable crisper because when I place them in the refrigerator there are no micro-organisms on them to cause browning or decay.

This process also works well with bananas. It keeps bananas from browning almost twice as long as refrigeration alone.

I have used the cleaning cloths and the Lotus water to clean the stove. It was a breeze. The Lotus water cuts through grease as if it had soap in it. It took less than a minute to wipe down the entire stove top after frying in several pans.

The Lotus water makes a fair to good deodorizer under the arms. Bacteria is what causes us to offend others when hygiene deficient. The Lotus water dispatches underarm bacteria for about six to eight hours. (Gross! I know, but, think about it in the context of global warming and the destructive potential of spray deodarants).

This is a device for thinking Americans. It is a device that has uses in the home every minute. It is a device that enhances the lifestyle of every person conerned about their personal environment.

If the device only talked to me in a seductive feminine voice . . . .

I didn't believe the claims although my daughter assured me the Lotus System did work wonders. Well she gave me one and NOW I believe.

The most recent challenge for my Lotus system was at my office. Our hall carpet had a number of large dark spots and my boss had the janitorial service use the standard cleaning products to no avail. So I offered to bring my Lotus in and give it a try. Within 10 minutes I had removed some 15 large spots on the carpet with absolutely no "elbow grease" needed. Just spray and remove. My office friends are now all shopping for their Lotus System. They pronounced it "unbelievable". Unfortunately most folks don't believe it until they see it. But it is REAL.

And if you are a pet fancier, this is a MUST in your home. I have removed every remnant of pet stains in my home. You know how you use ever product on the market but there is still residue. Well, no more. The spots are GONE!

I have never been so enthusiastic about a household product. The uses are endless. No home should be without a Lotus Sanitizer.

I looked everywhere for a product that would clean and better yet, sanitize my child's toys without harmful chemicals. I knew he would be putting everything in his mouth, and it bothered me to think about him ingesting things that might harm him. He has numerous soft toys like plush animals and cloth books and even cloth-covered electronic toys. You can't use something like bleach on these things. I spent hours on Google and in the stores looking for something that would clean and sanitize these things and came up short until I found the Lotus Sanitizing System.

This amazing contraption infuses normal tap water with oxygen in a way that makes it more effective and faster at killing germs than bleach, AND leaves no chemical residue or smell like bleach does. Not only that, but you can use the spray bottle to spray the treated water on anything that you want to clean and sanitize--don't try THAT with bleach! I just spray Lotus water on the toys (I usually give them a pretty good dousing) and then just let them air-dry, and they are clean and sanitized for my child to play with. The list of uses for this thing is practically endless. I use it in the kitchen, to sanitize the high chair, the kitchen table, the countertops, the doorknobs--everything. I use it in the bathroom also, to sanitize everything in there. I often use it on my carpets and on my upholstery to clean and sanitize them as well. I spray them down really well before going to bed, and they are dry well before morning. Because Lotus water is a powerful germ killer, you can even replace your chemical cleaners with it.

The system comes with a bowl attachment that you can put items in that you want to sanitize. I use this for fruits and veggies, and also for small toys and pacifiers that are safe to immerse in water. For the first time, I feel like I am getting my produce cleaner and with less pesticide residue.

I researched this product for several weeks before buying, and called the company and asked lots of questions first as well. It is a little pricey for some, but if you think about what you are getting, it is well worth the cost. I have been extremely satisfied with this system in every way, and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a way to more safely and effectively clean and sanitize their home.

Any reason I should not clean my cats grubby little paws with the water. Other that the fact they will be irratated. Also if I put a little of the water on a q-tip could I clean out their ears a little? Weird questions I know , I just want to get as much use possible out of it.

Anonymous said...

The lotus water is 50% more powerful and 3000 times faster acting than bleach...its actually more powerful than hydrogen peroxide...the lotus water can be used on pet's coat to deodorize and get rid of bacteria causing odour, on their paws, ears and brushing their teeth. The lotus can be used to spray and deodorize your pet's sleeping bed, or couch.
There are so many chemical-free ways to use the lotus especially around pets!

Is the Lotus safe to use with silicon?

I just tried it on the black and rust stains all over the tub and shower tiles, from mildew and also minerals in the tap water. Also the grimy foot stains on the basin of the tub.

(Our plumber says the rust colour is not our pipes but the iron and maganese deposits in the city pipes that are coming in with the tap water. So I bought the water treatment system today, and it will take the lead out too, I hope, until we get the city lines replaced!!)

The Lotus water cleaned them all easily - took a little bit of rubbing, but not much. Truly amazing to see all the stains, grime and mold disappear under the cloth. I kept reminding myself I was actually washing with water, without fear of lung or nervous system or genetic or god knows what other damage the nasty stuff does.

BUT - the white silicon seals around the faucet, shower head, and at the base of the (marble) tiles where they join to the tub all shredded right off into the cloth. Those that remain are puckered and pock-marked, on close inspection.

Now I'm afraid to use it on the glass door of the shower, or elsewhere on mirrors etc. that have silicon borders. The silicon on the glass is different - clear - but I'm afraid to find the same result. The seals on the tub now have to be redone, and since I did them myself just a few months ago, I'm not thrilled.

What to do?

Anonymous said...

The Lotus sanitizer will not be harmful to silicone.
In fact, we use silicone tubing inside the product to circulate the super-oxygenated water through the system. Silicone was chosen because of its durability and reliability when interfacing with the super-oxygenated water.
With respect to silicone in the bathtub, the lotus water will not harm this in any way.
If you have experienced some degradation in the silicone I suspect it may have been the result of normal wear and aging of the silicone and not the lotus water.
We also life tested gym equipment such as the sponge grips and padding for 6 months submerged under lotus water for 8 hours a day with no signs of degradation.

Anonymous said...

Re: silicone

Thanks for this fast info!

I was surprised at the effect and it did not seem to disturb the clear silicone holding up the glass. I suspect my problem has more to do with the different type of sealant used on the marble (porous tile), and especially the initial prep of the marble surface itself, as the white sealant slid right off into the cloth.

Probably any cleaning solution and friction would have removed it in that state. Better to discover the problem now, I guess.

We'll investigate a better sealant and get back to watching dirt disappear with cold water!

Forgot to mention: just a finger in the lotus cloth pressed against the grout removed all iron/maganese etc. stains with little effort. Unbelievable.

Have there been any studies done recently on whether or not your sanitizing system will kill the staph "superbug" (MRSA) that's in the news a lot these days?

Anonymous said...

Currently, ozone systems are thought to be the most effective to combat the growing threat to public health of MRSA, Clostridium Difficile and other acquired infections in hospitals and elsewhere. Although we have not tested our system yet there is sufficient evidence on the web that our system would indeed kill this superbug. We will however, add it to the list of additional testing to perform so that we can publish data that is specific to our lotus systems.

Anonymous said...

Is it possible to use on a drainer to handle smell? or would it disintegrate the pipes?

Thanks.

Anonymous said...

You can definitely use on the drains, if it doesn't disintegrate your throat, it definitely won't disintegrate your pipes. All kidding aside, super-oxygenated water is used in hot tubs and pools already. I hope that helps, let me know if you need more detailed information.

Love your products, it seems like I am constantly finding new uses. A great use this time of year for those of you who use cool mist humidifires is to use lotus water in it. I like the idea of the water sanitizing the whole unit, and as an added bonus I have noticed that the filter lasts a lot longer!

Anonymous said...

Does the water in the base unit need emptied if not being used for extended periods of time? Won't leaving water in the unit compromise the storage tank in the unit?

Anonymous said...

All we recommend you do is put that red cap back into the blue center reservoir if you are going to store for an extended period of time. There isn't really a reason for this other than to avoid spillage as you carry the unit to your storage area. The unit actually has no storage tank inside. The entire inside of the base if filled with all of our technology to not only create the extra atom of oxygen but to saturate this into the water as the water is circulating through each attachment. Because we are continuously circulating this charged water when the unit is running, the unit is actually self-cleaning with each cycle. I don't have much experience with this, but if anything I would suggest to run a quick conditioning cycle with the spray bottle after you have left the unit sit a while just to let it clean itself out again??

Hi Steve!

I have been reading through the blog here for a couple of months prior to finally making my purchase in mid-November 2007. I’m really impressed that you take time to answer questions personally.

My husband and I bought the Sanitizer and the Water Purifier units and have been extremely pleased with both!! Both units have been working several times a day ever since we received them.

I want to purchase the Wet Mop and Baby Bottle attachment now, AND my husband wants to know how we can get Lotus Water out of our tap so we can shower with it & run it through a dishwasher [wouldn’t that be great?]!! Wow – ozonated water is proving to be amazing for deodorizing & cleaning.

I notice you're asking for thoughtful commentary in exchange for free product - how do I get on that program? In the meantime, here are some of my experiences with Lotus Water:

For many years I have been using natural cleaners -- vinegar, baking soda, borax & grain alcohol. Lotus Water is working even better, in some cases, than those natural cleaners and much better than the overpriced, stinky, chemical-laden junk sold as cleaners, deodorizers & germicides on our grocery store shelves. Thank you Tersano!

I love to cook and every evening have a dirty stove to clean. My stove has a black finish that is dreadfully hard to clean to a streak-free shine – that is – until I started using Lotus Water. I used to make countless trips from the stove to the sink to clean it, but now in just a few minutes I can do the job with my Lotus Water spray bottle, the microfiber cloth and [my secret] a coffee filter for the final dry & polish – and my stove shines like new! Just FYI, I tried using the microfiber cloth with tap water but it doesn’t cut through grease & baked on spatters. It’s the Lotus ozonated water that does the trick.

When I first got the Sanitizer unit, I decided to give it a real challenge. I cleaned the stainless steel vent hood over my stove which was sticky & gunky. I sprayed it with Lotus Water and let it sit for just a minute or so & then with just a tiny bit of scrubbing it was squeaky clean!!! Lotus Water did that job easier than anything else I’ve worked with, plus it leaves NO residue! I absolutely love it for cleaning all the surfaces in my kitchen. I’ve cleaned my windows and glass top tables in record time and it seems they are remaining clean longer. Does the water retain a charge that repels dust in the air?

My husband & I live in Georgia and since our terrible drought with water restrictions this past summer we lost most of the grass in our back yard, so now we have a lot of red clay instead. We have 2 dogs and a puppy door so you can imagine how much dirt they track in each day. This is why I really want to try out the Lotus Wet Mop for my hardwood floors. Red clay is kind of waxy & difficult to remove without soap, but the Lotus Water seems to clean it up like magic and the microfiber mop pads ought to make this chore a piece of cake.

I spritz the puppy beds with Lotus water, and it’s just amazing how any doggie odor vanishes in seconds afterwards. I’m simply THRILLED it works as advertised and is keeping my house chemical & residue free. Thank you Tersano!

My husband & I use Lotus Water as a mouthwash once or twice a day and it seems to be making our gums healthier – an added bonus is that it’s a wonderful breath freshener!

Our Lotus drinking water from the Purifier system is delicious. Our first pot of coffee made with it was exceptional – it really makes a big difference in taste. I’m so happy I don’t have all those little plastic water bottles going in the trash – a big plus for the environment.

My only problem so far is the lid for my Sanitizer bowl – it’s just a tad too small & has developed stress marks from forcing it to snap on tight and I think it should close tightly to keep the air out and the ozone in. I would like to buy one for my parents, both in their 80s, but I know they’d never be able to deal with that lid. It’s too hard to snap on and too hard to remove afterwards. I really wish I had a lid that fit properly.

Anonymous said...

Jeanne,
Thanks for that great feedback!!!!
Our supplier on the lids did have an issue at one time, you may want to call our customer care and have them send you out a new lid that is sure to fit properly.
That was one good writeup...I hope I answer any and all questions you had?!!
Next time we have a new product launch we will definitely want you to give it a try for us. You definitely use the product frequently and we need that type of feedback.
On the cutting grease side, I use an abrasive sponge sometimes to help with this stuff when it gets really baked on. I know to with our testing with restaurant chains this is one of the areas that they are most impressed with, at how well we do cut grease.
As for dust in the air...not that we would repel it, but the beauty of using our spray bottle in mist mode is that it will capture the dust and settle it to the ground. The best part is that you didn't replace that dust in the air with a chemical substance! So you not only get rid of the dust but you end up with clean fresh air.
You know, I had our designers build that wetmop because I got tired of cleaning all of our hardwood floors on my hands and knees with the spray bottle in one hand and the cloth in the other. You will love this attachment! It is available by a few of the catalog guys or you can buy it right here on our website.
Thanks again for the pat on the back, we need that every now and then!

I have only had my sanitizing system for less then a week and it has already paid for itself. Within 1 day of it's arrival one of my German Shepherds started with a skin infection. Normal routine is a vet visit and very expensive antibiotics. I have been spraying the superoxgenated water on the spot twice a day for the past three days and there is already a very noticeable improvment. A friend of mine who is a Naturopath physician told me the oxygen burns the bacteria, but not the flesh. The dog is very comfortable with the spraying and doesn't have to take large doses of antibiotics.

Anonymous said...

I read that you can use the lotus water in a spot lifter carpet cleaner, what about the regular steam cleaners? I have three dogs, so my carpets are dingy all over (not just in spots). Would be great to be able to use the lotus water to clean my carpets!

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately the heat from the steamer will speed up the breakdown of our charged water so I don't think that will work. Can you give it a quick try and let us know?

Anonymous said...

Can it be used as a first aid treatment to disinfect cuts and wound? Would it harm cells or cause tissue damage?

I understand that with your attachment accessories, you can use it to sanitize various objects. But are they considered "sterilized" after treatment? Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Not sure of the answer on this one as we have never gone after any medical claims. My general knowledge of our system is that the charged water will not harm cells or cause tissue damage but I cannot say this definitely without a full study.
Sterilization is a whole different level. We have not tested our system to these protocols but I do know that there are systems out there using similar techology to sterilize in a hospital setting..mind you, that equipment also costs close to $100,000 so we are talking about something totally different.
We are working on commercial units, is this why you are asking these questions or are you asking more for general home use?

HOW COOL ! thanks for your hard work- it certainly paid off :)
I am looking forward to reading about new uses for the product as more people comment.

Absolutely blown away by your product range, and your commitment to quality and development. I read in one of your blog entries Oct last year that you can supply 220v units - any plans yet to export to the UK? I believe we are 220-230v 50Hz here.

I would think there is a huge market here in the UK. I can find only two products available here that use ozone to sterilise produce. One is very similar in design to the Lotus i.e. a bowl with lid and strainer but without the timer and sensors so you have no idea how long to leave the produce in for, or whether the unit has neutralised the pesticides. It's about half the cost of the Lotus, and the company cannot provide any research or technical information whatsoever. The other product is an ozone gas generator unit with a nozzle which goes into the water, about twice as expensive as the Lotus. Apparently well-tested and has won awards but still cannot obtain any technical or research data from them in regard to its use for sterilising produce.

So would love it if you could supply here as soon as possible please!

Anonymous said...

I have just purchased the lotus sanitizing system, but have not yet tried it. I am wondering if you have to use the lotus microfiber cloths to achieve a "disinfected" or "sanitized" surface or can the spray bottle be used with other cleaning cloths or paper towel?

Anonymous said...

We are hoping to expand into the European market soon. We have CE and GS approval and I believe we are working on VDE as we speak. Thanks for the update on competitive products too. We are aware of both of those systems and agree with you that they would have a hard time making any claims without the sensor technology that we have in the lotus.
Cheers!

Anonymous said...

You do not have to use our cloths that we provide, however, for better streak-free cleaning, we did a lot of research to find just the right weight of microfiber cloth.

Anonymous said...

I just got the Lotus wet mop and I'm curious why you say not to use rechargeable batteries with it. I try to use rechargeables whenever I can to protect the environment.

Anonymous said...

From what I've been able to find it looks like AA sized rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries supply 1.2V each (4 = 4.8V), whereas AA Alkaline batteries supply 1.5V each (4 = 6V). At 4.8V our mop would not spray well at all and that is why we do not recommend using rechargeable batteries. Point taken though and we will make sure future models work properly on this voltage as well.

Anonymous said...

The charged water should not be affected when you move to a new bottle...unless that bottle is not sanitized and the water reacts with that first.
The blue wheel should spin. Check to make sure you are pushing the bottle down far enough on the blue reservoir. If that does not work, call our customer care and they can decide on whether or not to send you a new bottle or base unit to correct the problem. Thanks!!

Anonymous said...

I'd love to know if the oxygeneated water works at getting grease stains (from food and whatnot...not grease from cars or machinery) out of clothes? I can never seem to get them out of clothes. :(

Anonymous said...

It does work as a great pre-soak. We have tried spaghetti and grape juice stains in the lab. You still need to put it through the regular wash but we had great success. The best part is that even though the charged water is more powerful than bleach, it won't discolor your clothing. As always, I like to add that you should just go buy the unit, if you aren't completely safisfied, any retailer we deal with will let you take it back for a full refund.

Hello Steve,
I bought a sanitizing system at “Sur la Table” after reading the blog for a few months.
It works well and I like a lot, but it would be very helpful if you could clear a few things for me:

- How much product should I use to sanitize a toilet bowl (a cup, a whole spray bottle or more)?

- If I mix ozonated water with plain water, does is revert immediately to water?

- how long can I leave an object in the lotus water? Would it damage a pacifier to leave it in the bowl for 30 minutes?

-Do you know of any plastic or other material that would release chemicals if in contact with ozonated water?

- Is the smell of the water harmful or unhealthy? Should I avoid being around the machine while it is running to avoid breathing ozone?

- Is it possible to buy a machine that runs on 220V that I could use in Europe?

Thank you for your help,
Nathalie

Anonymous said...

Hello Nathalie,
When I do a toilet bowl, I spray the water from the bottle all over, but not necessary mix it with the water already in the bowl. The most a use is maybe a quarter of the water in the bottle. You could pour the whole spray bottle of charged water into the bowl but it would definitely dilute it and reduce the effectiveness. Most plastics are completely unaffected by the charged water. As you can see, our entire unit is plastic and is exposed to the charged water. I believe most pacifiers are of a silicone type material. The charged water will not break this down, not even if left to soak for 30 minutes. Since our system works best with cold tap water, I do not know of any chemicals that will release from plastics. Most toxins are released from plastics when they come in contact with hot water....that's my understanding anyway. The amount of ozone that you smell coming from the unit, or atomizing out of the water, is well below the limits set by OSHA. A photocopier...or even the air in the room you are in...probably emits (or has) more ozone in it than the lotus. Besides, I always like to add, think of what you are replacing. Those toxic cleaners...or even green cleaners...are still not safe to be around. We are just water and oxygen, can't get much closer to mother nature. We do have 220V units available and our products will soon be available throughout the world. Stay tuned and there should be an announcement on that shortly.
Thanks and ask away if you have any other concerns whatsoever.

Thank you Steve for your answer to all my questions.
This will be the last one:
My mother loves your product and would like to go back to France in 2 weeks with a LSR (the newest model) in 220V in her suitcase. How and where can I buy it?
Thank you,

Nathalie, that won't be possible at this time unfortunately. I wish I could say we could do one up special order for you/her but even that would be difficult on such short notice. I will update in a few weeks but I am hoping that we will have good solid distribution throughout Europe by the end of summer...2008 that is.
Thanks again!

Steve, my mother is too impatient so she will use a US machine with a 110-220V transformer.

I will check the website for updates.
Good luck and thanks for this great product!

I recently bought the Lotus mop and it is wonderful, but it needs a little help in the battery dept. Aside from not using rechargeables the design of the holder is such that it will not make contact without a lot of fussing. This morning I can't get it to work at all.

Thanks for the feedback on the mop. We will definitely look into that and beef up the points of contact so that it isn't so finicky. I've experienced that problem once myself but thought it was just me!

Can you use the system with soften water?

Anonymous said...

The system should work perfectly fine with softened water. Very rarely do you have to use filtered water with the system, this mainly happens when you are on well or lake water.

Anonymous said...

Why is the input air to the ozone generator dried?
What is the smelling average threshold level of ozone in the air.
Thanks.

Anonymous said...

I recently had an abscessed tooth and used water from the sanitizer on the sore gums. They settled down quickly. Now I wonder -my water pik passes the water over a magnet to create negative ions which break up the positive ion plaque deposits. If I use the water from the sanitizer will the magnets affect the stability?

Anonymous said...

Hi! Is there any danger if the sanitized water gets in my eyes?

Anonymous said...

I have a very weak sense of smell, I'm worried that my machine may be relasing ozone and I can't smell it. It was just purchased yesterday at Linens & Things, is their stock recently manufactured where you have solved that problem?

Unknown said...

I often use hydrogen peroxide to clean inside my ears. Could I use the your product instead? Some people believe that infections often start there.

Thank you.

Anonymous said...

Okay, starting at Jim, the air is dried to help in our process of spliting oxygen molecules. With a good cartridge we will split 3.5 times the amount of oxygen molecules into atoms.

I don't think our charged water will affect your magnets. I do know though that our charged water will also break down plaque...give it a try...

No danger at all if the charged water gets in your eyes...this is definitely green, not like those other 'green' products or regular cleaning products...you would have been flushing your eyes with water for sure using those products.

Linens N Things has our newest stock. Not only that, but we haven't really ever had a problem with leaking ozone with our sanitizing system. We had a series of bad boards in units about 2 years ago but that problem is long behind us...

You can definitely use our product to replace hydrogen peroxide. We are actually more powerful and the best part it is only cold water you are using so it is much more bearable...even on an open wound!

I hope I got them all. I promise to try to get back to everybody sooner in the future!!!

Anonymous said...

Your response time is fantastic, Steve!

Thanks for your response. However I was wondering if the magnets on my water pik would affect your water not if the water would affect my magnets. I meant, is it possible that the ionizing effect of the magnets as the Sanitizer water went over them would change the sanitizer water and make it less effective? Sorry for the confusion.
This is a great machine and I find new uses for it every day. Can you tell me where to find the model number and serial number so I can register my machine? Thanks again M.A.

Anonymous said...

I don't see how that would affect our charged water but we will do some testing here just to be sure. If we get some negative results then I will post them to the web here. If you don't hear from me then everything is dandy.

Steve, I just want to comment on your customer service. It is incredible! I called because my mop had stopped working and your rep told me she would send me a new one. Before I had time to pack up the old mop my new mop had arrived - and it works! This is a great invention, my floors have never been this clean. My only problem with it is with a full water bottle and a swivel mop it's hard to keep steady, but I'm sure you'll work that out too.

Anonymous said...

I want to charge more water than the spray bottle will hold. Can I just use the bowl attachment to do this?

Anonymous said...

You can definitely use the bowl attachment if you wish to charge more water. I would just leave it in the 'spray bottle' mode.

I wonder why they didn't test ozone sanitation units in this study. Are they trying hard to inflict irradiation on us? Here's the text of the article:

Washing produce doesn't remove bacteria: report

Updated Thu. Apr. 10 2008 1:33 PM ET

CTV.ca News Staff

Washing fruits and vegetables with water is not enough to remove common bacteria that can cause severe illness, a new report says.

The researchers injected food-borne bacteria such as E. coli and salmonella into vegetables and then tried various common ways to clean them, including water and a sodium hypochlorite treatment.

Both the water and the chemical solution did not significantly reduce the bacteria levels. Only irradiation killed 99.9 per cent of harmful bacteria. Irradiation is an electron beam that alters a cell's genetic material, thereby killing harmful parasites, germs and insects.

The research, conducted by scientists at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, said that bacteria can sometimes be hard to wash away.

"When bacteria are protected -- whether they're inside a leaf or inside a biofilm -- they're not going to be as easy to kill," Brendan A. Niemira, the study director and a microbiologist with the USDA's Agricultural Research Service, said in a statement.

"This is the first study to look at the use of irradiation on bacteria that reside inside the inner spaces of a leaf or buried within a biofilm."

However, irradiation is not yet approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and there is some concern that it compromises nutritional values.

But advocates say that using irradiation on fresh fruits and vegetables could help reduce incidence rates of food-borne illnesses. Salmonella and E. coli can cause severe vomiting and diarrhea.

Fruits and vegetables can become contaminated because they are usually grown outdoors, where they can be exposed to germs from animals, soil, manure and irrigation water.

The study was presented Thursday at an American Chemical Society meeting in New Orleans.

It is definitely a press release to help educate about irradiation. Lucky for us, our process is already USDA approved..and even FDA approved. Nice find, thank you, we will have to follow up with CTV.

Steve, I just got my unit today and started putting anything I can think of in it. I tried some fruit and veggies with no problem. Then I tried a water bottle that has been used for some time - expecting it to take more than one go but again, I got a 100%. I was a little skeptical after the bottle so I dumped the water and put new water in the bowl then tossed in my kitchen sponge and a plastic scour pad with grease and gunk in it. For sure I expected it to give me an error but again, I got 100% no problem... I can't believe the sponge and scour pad are sanatized... how can I be sure my unit is working properly? Thanks a bunch!
Janet

Umm Abbaad said...

I just thought of one more question. Is there any indication, other than checking the filter cartridge that it needs to be changed? Will the sanitizer not go to 100% if the cartridge is old or will it still go to 100%? Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Janet, you can be sure that the unit will NOT get to 100% unless we do charge that water to the right level. Keep in mind that we do kill germs on contact, so to kill bacteria on a scouring pad or sponge is actually relatively simple for us. What causes us the most problems are strawberries and grapes...but I can guarantee you, if it is seeing 100% on the LCD or LED, it is charged. You can always give the water a little sniff, it should smell like the air outside after a nice thunderstorm.

Anonymous said...

After you've used the bowl to sanitize your produce that water is probably not usable as a sanitizer itself. We run the programs a little differently for the bowl and it would be difficult for me to assure you of that. Mind you, pouring that water down your drains or on your plants will definitely be a good thing.

Anonymous said...

Janet,
The unit will have a harder time getting to 100%, especially with produce, with an expired cartridge. Some of our new units, not sure which model you purchased, actually have an indicator on the unit to also warn you that you should be changing this cartridge as a fresh cartridge allows us to split more than 3x the amount of oxygen molecules which in turn lets us charge the water with oxygen atoms to a much higher level....sorry to get so technical...

Anonymous said...

Janet, just have to add, usually I get complaints when the unit doesn't get to 100%, it is really refreshing to see that you would almost rather see that function code that tells you to rerun the unit just to reassure you that our technology works...thanks! I try explaining this to consumers, and you can probably read in this blog or other blogs, that seeing that code to change the water and run again is our greatest innovation as this is tested and proven to work effective and this is how you will always know whether the unit is working properly or not.

Anonymous said...

I would love to see a Sanitizer unit that would make more water for large jobs around the house and farm. Any plans? Will the unit overheat or malfunction if used several times in a row to charge water?

Anonymous said...

We are working on larger capacity units for the commercial side of our business so you never know what could roll over to the consumer side.
The unit can be run around the clock, we actually do this for the commercial side so that there is a bottle ready to use all the time without the 2 minute wait. Even in our own labs, we have the units programmed to just keep running.

I've had my Lotus system for a few weeks now and have been very impressed with what the ozonated water can do.

For example, I cleaned my living-room carpet, using the same Bissell extractor I've always used, but with plain Lotus water instead of my usual solution (1/2 cup of Folex carpet cleaner in a gallon of blazing hot water). As far as I can tell, it worked just as well, without leaving any residue to attract future dirt. And the smell ... FRESH! FRESH!! FRESH!!!

Before I get carried away, though, I thought I should make sure this is safe for the extractor. Could the ozonated water cause corrosion, damage the pump, weaken the seals, or anything similar?

Also, I've been wondering if the Lotus system might resolve one of my gardening problems. I have a perennial phlox that is extraordinarily prone to powdery mildew. Every time it rains, the plant's leaves get fuzzier and blacker. I was planning to replace the phlox with something that wouldn't become such an eyesore, but that MIGHT not be necessary. If I were to mist the leaves with Lotus water after they've been rained upon, could that prevent mildew from growing on them?

By the way, Steve, your support for the Lotus system is phenomenal. It's rare these days (VERY rare) to see a company so committed to helping its customers. Thank you for all the time you spend here!

-- Randy

Anonymous said...

I would like to add to the above that your customer service is really good. Polite, helpful and efficient. A rare thing these days. Thanks

Anonymous said...

The ozonated water shouldn't case any issues with your carpet extractor. We actually do the same testing here in our lab and haven't seen any issues.
As for your plants, the ozonated water will definitely kill mildew. I haven't done this yet, or heard of anyone who has, so please give it a try and let us know. The charged water will not only kill mildew, but even mold and fungus. I just wonder if you'll have to dry the leaves afterwards??
And most importantly, thanks for the pat on the back.
Take care and happy lotusing!

Anonymous said...

I am a Gardener and would be happy to do testing for you this summer. Interested? Who do I contact? MaryAnne

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the speedy reply, Steve.

I'll be happy to report back regarding the mildewy phlox, but it will take a while. It doesn't usually look ratty until late June or even July, so I'll know by then whether or not the Lotus water has had any effect.

Also, Mary Anne volunteered to do some testing, so there will be at least two of us.

I've given this more thought since you mentioned the possible need to dry the leaves (gosh, I hope not).

It would seem that rain, by itself, couldn't cause mildew. There would have be something already on the leaves that comes to life with moisture. So, my plan is to mist the plant with Lotus water two or three times a week, rain or no rain. Then, when the rain comes, there shouldn't be any mildew there for it to encourage.

The phlox is just tentatively poking its head out of the ground now, so I'll be able to start any day now. See you in a couple months!

So here is my question, if you infuse an extra oxygen ion into the water, doesnt that then turn it into H2O2, hydrogen peroxide?
So are you selling us something we could by at the drug store for less than 99 cents?

Anonymous said...

Maryanne, if you could call into our customer service and give them your phone number and email, either myself or someone else in marketing will get a hold of you to see how we may be able to work together.

Anonymous said...

Kimberly,
I over simplified what we are actually doing. I get called out for being too technical sometimes so it is difficult to find that happy medium. What we actually do is split oxygen molecules into atoms inside the unit. From 02 to O. The extra oxygen atoms then link up with exsiting oxygen molecules to form O3. This O3 (ozone) is then infused into the water (saturated) which then forms H2O+O3. This same process is used by water parks, olympic swimming pool venues, food packaging plants as well as many other commercial establishments because it is highly effective and saves you a lot of money on chemicals, hydrogen peroxide included. In my cleaning regimen around my house, we would go through 3 to 4 bottles of lotus water at a time which would equate to $3 of hydrogen peroxide a week, or if you were buying other cleaning products, probably closer to $10/week. On top of that, now you have a way to make sure your produce is not only safe, but that it will last longer, saving you $$$$ on wasted produce too.
Also, with our product, I have no issues having my kids use it. I don't know about you, but I would never allow them to go unsupervised with most of the other products out there.

I bought a Tersano sanitizer a year ago and I think that it is great. I have a concern though. The bowl for the sanitizer looks like it is made from polycarbonate. With the recent news about bisphenol A (aka polycarbonate) is there a concern for users of the sanitizer about this material getting into our food from the bowl? Can the ozone enrichment process cause the bowl material to degrade and go into our food?

Thanks,

Norman

Anonymous said...

Norman, we switched over to the SAN material about a year and a half ago. We do ask that you always use cold water to run the process. We also chose certain materials that are both FDA approved for food contact and that do not degrade when they come into contact with ozone. If you are still concerned please call and we can get you a replacement bowl.

It could have been called "asparagus cleaner"; or "carrot sanitizer" or "celery cleaner", but it is a "tooth brush cleaner".

My brother came to visit and I grabbed his false teeth and tooth brush. The water was really filled with floaties. I had used it on my own tooth brushes and my teeth seem to stay cleaner longer.

I have a lot of asparagus to process. In the bowl I have always had a problem getting the long veggies like asparagus and carrots to process well. Nearly always they need to be cut shorter. I had a brain storm this afternoon; use the tooth brush cleaner in the brush mode to clean them. I did need to cut them a bit. In fact they needed to be cut anyway; to have a "fresh cut" to take up water and keep them fresh, like flowers. Even so, there was a bit not in the water. I did put them in tops down because of the shape of the vessel. The insert can act as a collinder to drain them. After that I dumped them in the bottoms down position in the bowl to dry before putting away. If they were carrots or celery I would shake off the moisture and place them in bags.
Finally, place the drained asparagus in a zip bag and store standing upright in the fridge or cool pantry. I have had them last a long time that way even if they were not processed in lotus.

Bottom line: if you are considering the sanitizing unit, please consider getting the "tooth brush cleaner". You will likely find even more things than I to use it for.

I appriciate the post about strawberries. I had that problem this morning. I just left the berries in the bowl that got an F1 for awhile. Then I put them into a collinder to dry. After that I did pick out any that had blemishes for breakfast. At the end I did put the "dry" berries into a box with a towel to apsorb any moisture to allow them to keep a long time. In the past strawberries processed in my Lotus kept "forever" only becomming a bit dehydrated.

For those who are using the Lotus to clean fresh herbs and greens (lettuces and the like) before storing them, what do you do after you wash them? Do you dry them before storing or do you store them (dripping) wet or damp? How do you store them? In a plastic bag or other container?

Steve - what happens to the charged water if I warm/heat it up? I would like to use it for putting on my son's cloth wipes that we use for diaper changes, but my guess is that the extra oxygen probably saturates the water better when cold (which is why the instructions say to use cold water?)

I think a forum would be GREAT for questions like mine above.

Thank you for your help, Robin :)

I was very excited to get the Lotus Sanitizing System and have been using to almost nonstop since yesterday! I am totally amazed at how well it works.

My comment/question is this...can the activated water from the bowl be used safely in the washing machine? I have used products like OxyClean before, and to my way of thinking, the "oxygenated" water out of the system is pretty much the same thing, isn't it? I have used it in two loads of laundry today and things look fine. I realize that I'm adding a bowlful of water to "unactivated" water, but even if there's more plain water, I'm not hurting my clothes, am I? I usually use bleach in one load...can I used this activated water with the bleach or instead of the bleach or should I not use it in the wash at all?

Anonymous said...

Robin,
The water will lose its charge quicker in warm water than in cold. We haven't done any experimenting with saturating cloths with the charged water so I can't really say how much quicker at this time unfortunately.

Anonymous said...

It is definitely okay to use in a washing machine. My initial thought would have been that the water would be too diluted to have any effect but it appears that you are seeing great results. We already recommend using our lotus water as a pre-soak so there is definitely no harm to your clothes, or to your washing machine for that matter as the detergents, bleach, or other oxy products are way more abrasive anyway. Please keep us posted on your results as I would have never thought of doing this myself...thank you!!!!

Lotus Water as Diaper Pail Wash -

I use a plastic trash can with lid with a wetbag (a bag made of plastic (PLU) coated fabric) in the trash can to hold diapers as a diaper pail.

I'd noticed a few days ago that the trash can (after removing the wetbag) was still smelly.

Last night I poured a bowl full of charged Lotus water into the trash can and sloshed it around inside the can and sat it out on the patio to get some air and to dry out.

This morning, I stuck my nose into the can and... no stink, no stench!!

Lovely!!

5 years ago my husband spent a month in the hospital and required 3 months of care at home. I was so unhappy with the home health care, I took over after 3 days.

Consequently, I washed my hands about 50 times a day and they have never recovered. They were so rough, and dry, and crepey. My hands looked like an 80 year old tobacco farmer's. I hated using hand lotion 20 times a day to make them look somewhat ok.

Anyway, I got to thinking, maybe I have some little viral thing going on and I read a message from a woman on another board that said her warts went away on the hand she used to hold her produce under the water when sanitizing them.

So I've been spraying them once or twice a day with the sanitizing water. In less than a month, the change is incredible. Soft. No ashy look. Still looks a little crepey, but I bet that too will go away in another month or so. I haven't used hand cream a single time since I started sprayimg them.

And this is weird, the water on my nails drys in seconds. It's funny to see wet hands and dry nails.

One more blessing from yoy product, Steve! Thank you so much.

One more Question,
Can the Lotus Sanitizer be used with well water that passes throught a water softner/conditioner?

Thanks Again,
Chris

Anonymous said...

Hi, I just bought one of these and am really liking it. Being sort of a geek about this kind of thing, I would like to know what chemical reactions are taking place during this process. Words like 'supercharged' sound nice but don't really tell me much. I know that H2O is the water and that somehow you are ending up with 03, which is ozone--but can you give me a chemical equation or something? Thanks. C.

Anonymous said...

Chris,
The cartridge will last about 3 months. The system is made to use with municipally treated tap water so if you are on a well you may have to not only soften the water, but worst case, put it through a filter if there are other impurities in that water source.

Anonymous said...

C. I am not a chemist myself so I hope I get this right. We are saturating the O3 into the water, obviously breaking any excess down so that we don't discharge any to the environment, so in the attachments you end up with H2O+O3.

Anonymous said...

I understand the cleaning and sanitizing effectiveness of the Lotus, but I was wondering about the safety of the O3 on the rinsed food itself. Inhaling ozone is not safe for the lungs. I've read the posts saying that there are no emergency procedures required if one were to drink the oxygen-infused water, and I'm sure this is still far safer than most of the chemicals in other cleaners. However, how long does the ozone stay on the fruit we've rinsed? Is it ok to eat the rinsed fruit immediately (we have lots of strawberries), with the infused water still on it, or would it better to process all fruits and veggies and dry them? I believe the posts say that the water reverts to ordinary water in 15-30 minutes. Should we wait that long before eating them? Especially for asthmatics?

Anonymous said...

I have two favourite examples to talk about when this question comes up. If you want to have an olympic swimming venue, the pools have to be sanitized with ozone. On top of this, Walt Disney World, Sea World and many other water parks (even my pool at my house) use ozone in the water exclusively so that they do not have to add chlorine. In all of these examples, im sure the kids and even the athletes drink the water at some point and there is absolutely no harm done.
My second example comes from a previous blog where a user of our system was using the charged water to get rid of his bad breath and even to whiten his teeth. My point here is any ozone in the water left on your produce will more than likely get broken down as it comes into contact with some of the bacteria in your mouth.
Presonally, I wouldn't worry about it but if you want to be 100% safe I would dry the produce and then wait the 15 minutes.

Can the Lotus kill amoebas? I ask because I would like to use the product in Mexico. The water carries amoebas, as well as some foods (fruits, veggies, etc). I know the Lotus kills bacteria, but what about amoebas?
Also, would I have to put bottled water into the machine? Any info would be great. Thanks for your help!

Anonymous said...

Melissa, you are really testing my Grade 12 Biology here....I believe we would as we kill all the way up to the size of a dust mite but if I am wrong I will write back here later. You may have to use filtered water in the unit if the water source you are using is not equivalent to our municipally treated tap water here in North America. I have to admit, this is the first time I have had this question so I will get our lab guys on this right away.

Steve,
I really appreciate the blog and check it often to see what's new. I like data! Here is my contribution and I think it is an exciting one. It seems to cure canker sores. I suspect it destroys the virus. Having once worked in medical research, I have cautiously waited to draw my conclusions. I have now had success 4 times (no failures). At first I just rubbed the water on with a Q-tip, but then I tried just swishing water around for a minute or so and had success both ways. The pain went down by half right away and the healing began.

If my results hold up, I think people would buy the Lotus just for that! Canker sores are so nasty!

Anonymous said...

Anne, that is very exciting! We haven't gone after making any medical claims but you could imagine similar results with anything that is bacteria or virus related. Thank you for that feedback...any idea what we need to do to be able to make claims like this? I had a nurse from a wound care clinic call me once and wanted to get a trial going but then they never called back. She saw similar results to what you just mentioned with your canker sores and thought it would be a great solution if patients could just go buy a lotus and do some of their own treatments at home rather than always having to go into the clinic.

I also received this for Mother's Day and love it; however, today it's being glitchy. The power button just flashes and it won't charge the spray bottle (or do anything) and then after a while a F4 code comes on (even though the bottle is on the base). Any ideas?
Thanks!
Heidi

Anonymous said...

F4 just means that there is no water down in the base. Sounds like you emptied it after the first use which usually makes it even harder to prime the next time around. Just keep trying, you will hear the pump turn off and on as it tries to get the air out of the system. Sometimes you will find this will take quite a few tries and you may even need to help it along but taking the spray bottle off and on while the pump is turning off and on.
Next time, leave the water in the base and use the red cap for storage. If you think about it, we are creating a natural cleaner in this process, so all that water in the base is charged and the system actually cleans itself as it is running.
Good Luck!

Anonymous said...

"If you think about it, we are creating a natural cleaner in this process"

Steve, you have been working with the charged water for so long that you have forgotten something so basic that you are doing a dis-service to your product.

YOU are more or less aware of the safety of the water, and what this charged water can do, but the rest of us, your customers, are not. I can't tell by looking at the water if I'm looking at plain or charged water; if charged, at what point of the reverting back to plain water process it is at. Your manual does not give us this information, which is needed to get the most use of the product, or even to come up with new and different uses for it.

One of the selling points, for me, was that I saw here that in addition to sanitizing, you said that this charged water could be used as a "green" cleaner without additional chemicals.

I tried this on my walls (have lots of washable wallpaper), it works, BUT having to stop after 15 minutes to recharge the water, because that is what the manual tells you to do, would be enough to make me want to use my old chemicals. Nowhere in the manual does it tell us that we have about an hour (that's doable) to work with it as a cleaner. If I had not previously known about this blog, I would not have found this out on my own.

Therefore, I would add the following 2 steps to the lotus your Home part of the manual (page 7 in my manual):

"12. With the spray bottle, you can clean for up to an hour afterwards but we have to show you the 15 minute timer so that you know how long you are able to sanitize for. I don't think there is another green product out there able to claim sanitation, they are all just cleaners, so we are able to go that one step above and beyond for a short period."

"13. After (insert time here) the charged water will have completely reverted back to plain water."

Also, when it comes to instructions, I'm a very "literal" person. In the additional step 12 above, if someone were to use the bowl to make a larger quantity of lotus water and dump it into say another bucket (for whatever reason or purpose that they want to use it for), would they still have the hour to use it as a green cleaner?

If so, you may want to change the phrase "With the spray bottle" to "With the lotus water".

Anonymous said...

Ellen,
So few people know that 'green' cleaners are usually just that, cleaners. We are the only product, I know of, that can get to that sanitizing level and we thought this was the main selling point so everything we produced is written around the 15 minutes. As our market gets proliferated with so many different 'green' options we are realizing that we need to point out that we clean equally as well, actually better, and usually better than even the traditional cleaners. We are backtracking to now get this 1 hour information into all of our materials and I appreciate you pointing out that we missed it in our user manual. Thanks for helping us reword the relevant sections!! Now, big question, to get changes like this out there quicker (and to be greener) how would you react if we didn't include a use and care guide but rather pointed you to our website to download it? That is a big book we produce and my thinking is that we would save a lot of paper as consumers would only print it out in the language of their choice, or maybe even only the pages that are most relevant?

Melissa said...
