Lotus Sanitizing System

The lotus Sanitizing system infuses water with super-oxygen, in the all purpose sanitizing bowl included with the system, to reduce bacteria and pesticides on foods. You can also use lotus to infuse water in the included spray bottle attachment and sanitize surfaces with one of the lotus microfiber cleaning cloths also included with the system.

My apologies, yes, MRSA is a staph virus and we do kill this entire family.

Steve,

Our home was recently discovered to have a mold problem, the same type (stachybotrys) as the case in California where the youngest member of the family now has holes in his brain.

Yes, we are freaked out. Yes, we are moving. However, the company that did the air quality tests advised that we pretty much throw everything away unless it can go through a washing machine or dishwasher with bleach.

I've got a few item, heirloom furniture and such, that can not be bleached. Does Lotus kill mold spores on wood and other porous material? Can I use 'Lotus water' in a washing machine or a carpet shampooer?

Also, since we live in Florida, no matter where we move, humidity and mold are everywhere. So anything that would help to keep the levels of mold and fungi much lower is definately something my family is interested in.

Athyna,
The lotus water will definitely kill mold. When the water is charged, it is actually 50% more powerful than bleach yet it won't discolor or harm any of your upholstery or furniture. I actually use lotus water inside a carpet cleaner myself and have compared to the chemicals that the manufacturer also sells and the results are amazing....obviously you get way more out using lotus water than with chemicals. For the washing machine, I believe someone recommended putting in a whole bowl of the charged water, equivalent to about a gallon. To stop the growth, or spread, of mold I recommend puttting the spray bottle in mist moode and spraying your entire house. Not only will it kill mold but it will deodorize and grab all that dust out of the air at the same time, making your home a much healthier place to live.

I thought we couldn't put Lotus water in a carpet cleaning machine, as the heat would break down the O3, but in a response on5/17/08, Steve mentioned using Lotus water in a carpet cleaning machine. Can you help with my confusion?

Steve Hengsperger said...

The carpet cleaning machine I have doesn't use heat....my apologies for the confusion. You are right, the heat will break down the ozone too quickly. Is there a way to turn the heat off and just use the extraction portion of the machine?

Anonymous said...

Steve,

Will the charged water's sanitizing and cleaning properties survive being used in one of those hand pumped, pressurized, spray tanks used in the garden?

Previously, when I shampooed carpets, I would rinse the carpet using one of these tanks filled with plain water to remove as much shampoo and the dirt which it loosened by spraying the area and using a shop vac to remove as much of the dirty water as possible.

It would be great to be able to use the charged water in one of these tanks to replace the shampoo while cleaning the entire carpet instead of just spot cleaning.

Steve Hengsperger said...

Ellen,
I don't see why not. My only concern would be getting that tank clean before using it with the lotus water. You may have to rinse it using the charged water several times as any remaining shampoo or other remnants in the tank will eat up the ozone in the water before you get a chance to spray it.

I am so bummed. I love this gizmo... but... I just got an F& for, who knows what reason.... and I'm lost.. so I call the 800 number, and of course it's Saturday so, no help.

What do i do? I've tried following the instructions, and I'm nowhere. :(

I want to use your sanitizer on toys and equipment in a church nursery. How long should I use the lotus water on the items before I have kids in the nursery? I know its safe for them to touch right away, but won't the items still have some water on them? Would I have to dry everything? Any other concerns in this usage?

Steve Hengsperger said...

I think the right answer here is to say the choice is yours? I would think you would want to dry the toys off just from a practicality stand point. If you decide to leave the toys wet it would be safe to allow the children to play with them right away, same as with produce, it is okay to eat them while they are still wet. If they happen to lick the toy while it is still wet, no harm done...it may even help get rid of any bad breath they may have!! All kidding aside, this same technology is used in water parks around the world, because it is that effective and totally safe.

Anonymous said...

Just purchased both systems and love them. I did see you mentioned somewhere that it is effective against bad breath. I was wondering how you administer the remedy--with the spritzer or the just drinking the water from the drinking water system. thanks

For bad breath, it would definitely be a spritz (or gargle) from the Sanitizing System water. I think someone even wrote in that they were doing this to whiten their teeth too...

Steve,
Sometimes the Lotus sanitizer sounds to good to be true but your dedication in answering questions keeps me hooked.

What I don't understand is the ozone is kept in your ozone-resistant plastic container but in the blog people mention spraying it on practically any material in the household, even read how one woman uses it on a q-tip to clean something with. How is the ozone not eating away any of these non-ozone resistant materials? It leads me to wonder if the ozone generated in the water isn't too much and then I wonder if the amount can really kill bacteria, virus. I mean most of us don't have access to a lab tech to test this. We just have to rely on the seller's word.

But still I wish most companies had your level of customer service!

Thanks.

TheGoldenFart said...

I forgot to ask, so can people spray the bottle in the shower stall and use a paper towel or sponge to dry (or only the cloths you sell).

Thanks a zillion toots!

Steve Hengsperger said...

Goldenfart,
Ozone would break down certain materials only after prolonged exposure. The only place I get concerned on this is the components in our lotus as these areas that get wet are in constant contact with ozonated water, at fairly concentrated levels, figuratively speaking. You would have to soak a plastic that is non-ozone resistant in ozonated water for weeks, sometimes months, before you ever see any deterioration. It is not like it eats away at the plastic, more like what happens to some dashboards once you use Armor All too many times on it. Difference is, in our case, you are almost always wiping up, either with our cloth or a paper towel, and not leaving that surface wet for a prolonged period. Plus, take into account that the ozone reverts back to oxygen on its own and it is pretty simple to see why you don't really have to worry at all about any type of deterioration, even with plastics that are non-ozone resistant.
Thanks for believing in me, I try not to be just full of hot air.

For all you birders out there, I have started using the Lotus sanitizer water (I use the bowl to produce the water for this purpose) to disinfect my bird feeders instead of the usual diluted clorox water.

Hi I left a message last week but somehow it did not appear.
I found a use for the lotus that home canners will love. I charge up a bowl of water (on the spray bottle setting) and pour it into my canning bottles to sterilize them. I let them sit for 10 minutes or so. I then empty the jars and fill them with hot water to warm them before filling and canning. Thanks to Lotus I feel my jars are cleaner and safer.

Hi Steve
I hear about aflatoxin on peanuts and molds on grains. Will the Lotus help to get rid of that? I would be afraid to put grains in the bowl in case some grit got down into the machine base. Any ideas of how to treat grains, nuts , seeds ? Thanks

Anonymous said...

Hello Steve,

Without any disrespect, I too wonder how one may prove at home that bacteria, etc. is being eliminated by the Lotus. Is there any way? And thank you for having the best customer service I have seen. The fact that you answer your customer's questions directly is amazing.

Steve Hengsperger said...

This is tough to prove to yourself at home, without some equipment. Quick question though...have you ever questioned Purell or Lysol to see if they can prove they work, or do you just believe them? I'm not trying to be snarky, just trying to figure consumers out.
The best test I can think of is buy a little basket of berries. Leave half just as you would have done before and take the other half, rinse them and put them through the lotus until you get to 100%. Now let them sit side by side and see which ones last longer, and how much longer.
If anybody out there has another way to show bacteria being killed in the home, please pass it along...I could also use this demo in our infomercial!!

Steve Hengsperger said...

Maryanne,
We tested Aspergillus flavus, the fungus that produces aflatoxin. The Lotus will remove the fungi, Aspergillus flavus. We tried whole shell on peanuts and it worked fairly well, but we did get some small parts of shell and stems in the machine base. I would soak the seeds, nuts or grains in a bowl of ozonated water for several minutes or spray them with sprayer with ozonated water and then dry. Aflatoxin glows under UV light, so one can easily inspect the nuts, grains or seed before and after treatment.

Hi. This is a followup to an earlier post. I have been using the santized water in my laundry with good results. After seeing the comment about using it as a presoak, a lightbulb went on in my brain. I put the things I would usually bleach in the sink and poured about 3 bowls of water in on them and let them sit for about 15 mins or so...and couldn't believe how dingy the water got! I believe that must have been the residue from the bleaching and washing detergents used before. They came out just fine afterward. Now when I do my other clothes, I just put a bowlful of water in with them and wash them in cold water.

I also wanted to respond to a few other posts I saw on here. I've been using my system for a few months now and have been really happy with the results. It amazes me how much longer produce lasts after it's sanitized! I now put the treated produce in storage bags and write the date that it was treated on them just to track how much longer they last. I had strawberries last just about a whole week!

And finally, the microfiber cloths made a believer out of skeptical me. I used them when I first got the unit and they worked fine. Then yesterday I was cleaning the shower and just used a sponge I had handy, and got really frustrated with it and couldn't understand why it wasn't getting as clean...then I went and got one of the microfiber cloths and tried again...and the difference was remarkable! So, to the poster that questioned if they really needed the clothes (WHICH YOU SELL!)...do yourself a favor. Try using the cloth after you've used a sponge or paper towel! :-)

Hi Steve Thanks so much for answering my questions and your suggestions. I will try.
I am wondering how we determine which setting to use when charging water in the bowl for use other than cleaning fruits and vegetables. I remember you said that the two settings had different processes. For things I want to sanitize I use the spray bottle setting but what about laundry? Does the setting for fruits and vegetables have ozonated water when it is finished the cycle?
Oh! One hint about laundry -- spray your underwear before washing them. You will see a noticeable difference.

Anonymous said...

I am considering purchasing the sanitizing system. I was wondering if the super charge canisters are a required part of the system. Does the system work without them? How well? One of aspects that draw me to the system is being free of purchasing a brand specific cleaner and I am not sure if the super charge component is just a different version of this ball and chain. If after buying the system I can use it with only cold tap water I am pretty much sold.

Also, with cleaning food, both produce and meat, is there any harm with left over ozone water on the food and consuming it or cooking it while it is still wet? I understand that it leaves no resiue but what about handling or consuming the liquid while it is still active.

Steve Hengsperger said...

Maryanne,
I would use the spray bottle setting as that cycle only takes a little over 2 minutes vs. the 4 minutes for produce cycle. As long as you have nothing in the water, it should get to 100% just fine. This is the only difference between the cycles, length of time, so no worries ever if you have the system in the wrong mode.

Steve Hengsperger said...

The booster cartridges (or canisters) increase the efficiency of our system by about 300%. The system will charge a bottle of water no problem with an expired filter but if you are doing produce then you will find it will take longer to sanitize them. Instead of getting some items done in the four minute minimum, you may find you need to change the water and run the process a second time...or maybe even a third time for that matter. Since we are splitting oxygen molecules in the base, this cartridge conditions the air going into the unit so that we can create oxygen atoms more efficiently.
No problem consuming produce or meat right after the cycle is complete. You would usually dry items anyway but you can always look at it this way....it will probably break down in your mouth as it comes into contact with bacteria there...basically will act like a mouthwash.
Hope this all helps and that you become a happy lotuser?!?!

I bought the lotus sanitizing system and all I have to say is that the product really works! I bought the product a few months ago and boy let me tell you...I am so glad I did! Especially with all these outbreaks on produce I had to do my own investigating work and I wanted to let everyone know my experience. I bought strawberries at Whole Foods, apples at Costco and tomatoes at my local farmer market. The strawberries took 4 cycles, apples took 1 cycle and tomatoes 2 cycles!!! I went back to all the stores for their department manager's explanation; WF said that there may have been organic pesticides but they did not know for sure?, Costco actually buys their produce locally! and my local farmer uses, well...NO offense to anyone but it is what it is..Poop!and that causes bacteria growth. I trust this product works and I have the proof -my strawberries are still looking good and it has been over a week!
Thanks Steve for a wonderful product! I bought my friend who's 10 year old daughter has leukemia and I know that they will appreciate the Lotus!

Anonymous said...

I live in an area that is suffering from drought so wonder if it's necessary to change the water with every cycle. If one is sanitizing a bunch of apples for example and then wants to do a bunch of bananas is it necessary to change the water?

Carol

Steve Hengsperger said...

Carol,
Always safest to change the water between every use. You will find that the water is usually a little dirty after you are done sanitizing an item so it is best to start with clean cold water.

We have the Water Treatment System and it works great! We are now looking at the Sanitizing System. We've read about how effective it is with eliminating bacteria, but am not too sure how effective it is with pesticides. It might be already covered somewhere in the blog, but there are too many posts to be abe to find the answer efficiently.

Second question is when would the smaller LSR100 model be available in Ontario Canada, and who would be carrying them? Can we purchase them from your factory in St Catherine's?

Anonymous said...

The lotus Sanitizing System is effective at eliminating up to 99% of pesticides. There are so many different pesticides out there (I believe almost 3,000) and we have found in our testing that we can eliminate anywhere from about 50% to the 99%. If you wish to purchase the LSR100, please call our customer care number and they can have one shipped to you, or you can pick up right at our offices in St. Catharines.

Tersano folks,

Music teacher "Selarroc" (Ohio)
I have had my Lotus Sanitizing System for a little less than a week now and I love it!!!

I am a cancer patient, recently diagnosed, and also a vegan who eats a great deal of fresh vegetables and fruit. I juice approximately 50 lbs. of carrots per week just for starters. I will be starting chemotherapy this week and the doctors have all emphatically told me that I cannot eat fresh fruits and vegetables unless they can be peeled, but generally not to eat them at all, because of potential bacteria that can lead to infection in chemo patients who have lower immune system functioning. That was shocking to me because those are the foods that we are told are the healthiest for us. I looked around on the web to find out how to wash my produce and quite readily came across the Lotus Sanitizer. Why the physicians don't know about this I'll never know!

I am also a single parent who works the equivalent of 2 full-time jobs, doing low-paid work (teaching and caring for children) so the medical expenses that I currently have, even with self-purchased insurance, are insurmountable. The Tersano Company most graciously donated their Lotus Sanitizer to me, and had it shipped overnight so that I could have it before I started the chemo treatments. They have been the kindest, most helpful folks that I could ever imagine and I am deeply grateful to them!!!

I have been using the Sanitizer daily since it arrived and it works beautifully! Although I buy organic produce, I have been peeling carrots before I juice them, and when I scrubbed the first batch to put in the sanitizer, I had to run it through twice, because I got the F1 code that says all of the bacteria is not gone (thank goodness for that feature!). However, I bought a stiffer brush to wash the carrots and since then I have only had to run them through the sanitizer once. I have sanitized about 7 very large bunches of spinach and 3 large heads of leaf lettuce and they came out great! Everything I have put through has done very well, with the exception of organic strawberries, and I read somewhere that the little seeds might be a problem, plus berries tend to be the most contaminated. I already can see that I will save a lot of money on produce, because I won't have to peel and throw away all of those peelings from 50 lbs. of carrots per week, plus all of the lettuce and spinach, etc. that goes bad in just a couple of days after I buy it, won't be the case since the Lotus helps produce last longer.

I've also been using the spray bottle attachment to clean my counters and wipe down the bathroom every day. I cannot say enough good things about this system. I wish I had known about it long before, because I could have used much less bleach and ammonia for cleaning purposes. I don't have the mop, but I am going to use the sanitized water today to clean my kitchen floor using the microfiber cloth that came with the system.

This is an awesome product, I am so glad I discovered it and I am so very grateful to this company for their kindness and helpfulness. I am recommending this to everyone I know!!! I am not affiliated with this company in any way, I had never even heard of them until I did a web search trying to find out how to effectively wash produce.

As we travel we are using the Lotus daily. It has done wonderful things to romaine lettuce, veggies and fresh fruit. On one occasion we had to run berries through the system four times to get them clean. Another time, asparagus wouldn't come clean after several attempts so we washed it with soapy water before trying it again. It worked. The next read out was 100%. Some little pocket of bad stuff did not want to be found.

I have never been happier with a product than this. It's like a new toy for me! I am a homemaker with two girls, ages 1 and 4, so you can imagine the stains and messes they leave behind. I tried it on my carpet with stains of berries, juice and pasta sauce and everyone came out and with no extra applications! I've never been so inspired to clean before! I love it for my produce as well, I get excited when I see F1 come up! (As I said before I'm a homemaker, so the littlest things amuse me!)
Yesterday my unit kept coming up with the F7 code, even after troubleshooting. I emailed about it last night and by 8:00 this morning I have a replacement unit on it's way! I am overall very impressed with the product and very impressed with the customer service.

I broke my spray bottle already, knocked it off the counter onto the tile and the whole bottom feel off. So now I'll have to order a replacement and then I'll be back to spraying everything down!

Thank-You for inventing this for consumers! I wish you much success! I have been talking it up to everyone I know, I have a few takers to purchase. Next weekend we are having family come for our oldest daughter's birthday and I plan on having it out on the counter and ready to use to amaze everyone! Oh what a fun party game! (Tee Hee)

Seriously though, it is a true proven product and am happy to have it in my home!

Can the cold water be reused again to process more veggies after the Lotus has successfully reached 100%?

Steve Hengsperger said...

You can reuse the water, but, I find that after processing veggies, that water tends to get a little dirty which will make it that much less effective the next time you go to use it.

On April 14, I wrote:

"I'll be happy to report back regarding the mildewy phlox, but it will take a while. It doesn't usually look ratty until late June or even July, so I'll know by then whether or not the Lotus water has had any effect."

Well, July is here, and I'm happy to report that, for the first year ever, my phlox plant is completely free of powdery mildew.

With rain as heavy as we had this spring, the plant would normally be quite black and fuzzy by now, with most of its lower leaves shriveling up and falling off. Instead, it looks extremely healthy, with mildew-free leaves going all the way to the ground.

So, this looks like another Lotus success story! I've been misting the plant with Lotus water every three to five days, using at least half the bottle of Lotus water to saturate all the leaves. That was all it took to solve a long-standing problem.

Thanks again, Steve, for a great product and the top-notch support you provide.

I just unpacked my Lotus Sanitizer and have 2 questions that I don't see addressed in your Use and Care Guide. #1: There's a small straw that was included w/the product. What is this for?
#2: There's a vent on the lid for the produce bowl. Can you explain what this is for?

Thanks in advance!

Anonymous said...

The small straw should have been in a bag with the trigger sprayer. You have to attach these two together for the sprayer to work.
The holes on top of the lid for the bowl are so that you can strain off all the water from your produce after you are done sanitizing them. I recommend you leave these vent holes closed while you are runnning, that way you can give them a good rinse and remove any excess debris afterwards. All you do to open/close these vents is twist the center handle part of the lid.

FAQ's say not to use well water...I have been using the sanitizing system for a couple years...two different wells, with what I think is great success. What are the reasons for that statement? The house I just moved to has very hard well water...and it seems to be working fine. I do use calgon liquid softner in the laundry to help that issue. I just thinnk there are alot of well users that could benefit from this product. I would like to purchase this as a gift for friends and family...some have wells. Advice please!

Hi,
I have a question. Is the lotus water supposed to remove stains better than bleach? I have tried spraying some clothes with the lotus water and then putting them in the washer to no effect. The stains remain. If I use bleach then the stains are gone completely. Could it be that I have to change the filter. The system easily goes to 100% every time.
Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Researcher, nothing wrong with using well water, if the system works, just wouldn't have thought we could charge any and all types of water. We do throw that other statement where we say to use the equivalent of municipally treated tap water. If you're getting to 100% then you are all good! Worst case, your friends may just need to filter the water before using in the system.

Anonymous said...

gjarrous, I have not experienced this myself yet. I have always used the charged water as a spot remover. Make sure you are either pouring the water on or have it in the heavy mist setting as we do atomize quite a bit of the ozone out of the water when you are in a fine mist mode. The Navy and some hotel chains use this same technology on a larger scale to replace bleach so it does work...unless it is an unusual stain??

Anonymous said...

Hi! Love both of my systems!

When processing things like grapes, berries, etc. that are hard to wash well first, tiny pieces of stuff go into the wheel and prevent it from spinning. I have a very fine metal sieve made for the kitchen sink drain that I invert over the wheel and it prevents things from going into the wheel. Is there any reason I shouldn't continue to use this?

Anonymous said...

That shouldn't cause any problems. With a lot of this produce, I use that bowl with the strainer lid to give it all a good rinse before I even process for the first time on the lotus. That way you get rid of all the debris from the water before you even run a cycle and start with nice clean(er) water.
Thanks for the tidbit though!!

Hi! I just love your sanitizer product! I just recieved mine yesterday and have been finding all sorts of uses for it! I do have one question/concern... with the spray bottle attachment it is making a whistling/high pitched noise. Is this something to be concerned with?

Anonymous said...

I love this product, I use it on a daily basis. I love how well it cleans my four dogs, however they hate being sprayed by the spray bottle. Any other ideas of how to clean them using the water without using the spray bottle?

Anonymous said...

Hello Sue,
Coming off the Canadian long weekend here so my apologies for not answering sooner. That high pitched sound is perfectly normal. We do split oxygen in that base and then infuse that into the water through a little device that tends to make this noise as the process is all happening. In most cases, the sound goes away after a while but not always. I hope it isn't totally unbearable??

Anonymous said...

That's interesting, I thought most dogs love water and being sprayed? I don't know of another way besides maybe soaking a cloth. Anybody out there with any other suggestions?

Anonymous said...

Hi

How are you meant to store the Lotus Sanitizer for daily use- eg. do you use the red plug and keep the bowl off the base? Or is it fine to just leave the bowl permanently on the base unit ready to go? Would that use the filter up more quickly?

Many thanks.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't leave the spray bottle or bowl on the base 'ready to go'. At my home, we put the red plug in...even this isn't really necessary if you just leave the unit on the counter top. The red plug was developed moreso to enable you to move the unit around without worrying about spilling the water in the base. This is probably the most important point, once you have primed the unit, do not empty the base out as this will make it very difficult to prime again. Push in the red plug and just wipe the little bit of water away. The base itself is self-cleaning every time you run the unit and this water can remain in the base for months without getting contaminated. If you have let the unit sit for a couple of months, I would just run a quick conditioning cycle to clean out the insides.

Anonymous said...

I just bought one unit of the Lotus sanitizing System and started using
following the exact instructions. I noticed that there is almost no bubbling from the bottom of the sanitizing bowl and sprayer. What I could see was only a very tiny whirl pool at the top of the water surface. Is this normal or is my unit faulty? Please advise. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

That is perfectly normal. You should only see tiny micro bubbles coming up and floating around. We infuse the ozone right into the water, if you saw big bubbles, the unit would be faulty as it would be emitting ozone into the air which is bad. We have lots of safety features in place to ensure this doesn't happen which is what makes us so unique. One thing for sure, if the unit hits 100% on the LCD or LED, you know it's working fine....with the spray bottle. With the bowl, if it can't get to 100% then there was probably too much contaminants on your produce for it to get to that sanitizing level so it asks you to change the water and run again. A lot of people don't realize this, but to call ourselves a sanitizer means we have had the unit 3rd party tested to meet the EPA protocol for sanitizers. We are more than just a cleaner and even on that note our latest tests that are under our 'test results' section proves that we even beat some of the best commercial cleaners at cleaning things like glass and countertops.
Goes to show, who needs anything else! Add to it, that at $5.00/cartridge it equates to about 5.5 cents for every bottle you are making and you are getting a great value vs. Method or Seventh Generation at $4 a bottle!!

Last night, my Lotus developed a disturbing "grinding" sound with both the bowl and the spray bottle attachments. It was processing very slowly and got an F1 error each time. I tried changing the booster cartridge, to no avail. Is there anything else I can do? I was SO disappointed -- it had been a rough week, and I was looking forward to enjoying a beautiful fresh salad to end it off!

Hi Steve,

I was the person who enquired about the no bubbling and little whirl pool effect. Yesterday I used the bowl to sanitize beet roots. For three cycles of use the unit was bubbling profusely from the base and there was much froth and scum floating to the surface. After that there was no bubbling again. I am confused why the unit behaved like that. In fact, the bubbling seemed to be more effective as much scum was very quickly formed! Please advise. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Why does F7 keep coming up? Manual says Voltage Signal. What does it mean? Followed instruction to unlug and wait for 5 minutes before use. What if F7 keeps coming back? What should I do ?

LuckyCharm said...

FYI, I called customer service, and they told me to run two cycles with the spray bottle to condition the new booster cartridge. I did, but it didn't resolve the problem, so I called back. They are exchanging my base unit for a $9.95shipping fee (since my unit is beyond the one-year warranty). As soon as I provide a tracking number for the shipment of my current unit, they will ship me a new base, so I should have that this week. Pretty good customer service, I must say!

Not sure on the beets. There must have been something with the juice that it reacted with the ozone in the water is my guess? That is definitely an issue we find a lot and have to remind people all the time, it is not a cleaner, you should thoroughly rinse your produce before you put them in the system. The system will just sanitize but if there is juice in there then it is that much more difficult for the unit to process to 100%. You may have to run a straight water conditioning cycle or two to get everything cleaned out inside the unit.

If F7 keeps coming back please call our customer care and they will assess whether there is a problem with the unit or with the outlet.

1) Is the lotus water from the lotus sanitizing system effective in killing viruses such as SARS, which can be killed with a 1:99 bleach solution? 2) Your web site says this product is available in Home Depot and Canadian Tire. I've checked their catalogue and it's not there. Why?

Anonymous said...

Hello, the lotus is actually more effective than bleach and there is a full list of bacteria and viruses that we kill under our 'test results' section.
Canadian Tire and Home Depot do still have some of our product but we have focuses our attention lately more to Whole Foods, Home Outfitters and all the other small health food stores around the country. We don't usually make their catalogs due to space limitations.

Anonymous said...

hello Steve,

1) I've checked the list of test results. It doesn't mention about the SARS virus. Can you specifically do a test on SARS and publish the results? 2) I'd like to see the lotus sanitizing system being more affordable, so that more people can benefit from it. Any chance the price can go down to something like $69.99?

I just heard about your food sanitizer! So excited, but have some questions: I understand that this treatment kills viruses and bacteria on the surface of produce. What about the ones that get into the inside of the plant? I know there was once a problem with lettuce (or other produce - can't remember) where the news reports said we couldn't wash the pathogens off the plant because it was absorbed in the root system. Also, because it can't distinguish good bacteria from bad, does that effect the health benefits that we get from the skins of fruits, like the enzymes or nutrients? Finally, Does it help at all with parasites?

Anonymous said...

We will add SARS to the list.
I would definitely love to get the cost down, unfortunately, the cost to manufacture just went up 15% but we held our prices to our retailers. One way to look at it is that it really only costs 5.5 cents per bottle vs. about $3 or more for your traditional chemical or green cleaners so there is a quick payback.

Our expert from the University of Florida claims there has yet to be a case of bacteria or viruses being internalized in produce, that he has seen. This is from Dr. Gary Rodrick, a very acclaimed and well respected microbiologist in the field of food safety, namely produce. Ozone actually can somehow distinguish good from bad bacteria. I'm not sure how, but doing a little research on the web leads to this conclusion. Otherwise, it does not alter the nutrients/enzymes of fruits or vegetables and hence why using ozone and water is one of the only processes certified as safe by both the FDA and USDA.
Not sure what type of parasites you are thinking of. From general testing with ozone/water systems, we can kill a parasite up to the size of a dust mite. Once again, this information comes from Dr. Gary Rodrick.
Curious to know what you currently do to make your produce safe? I understand the questions but once you see EPA registered and FDA and USDA approval on our website, why is that not enough? What do we need to put on our website to enable everybody to believe that we work and that we are a tested and proven technology?

Anonymous said...

Hi Steve, I was the person asking about the parasites (I read your website but wasnt familiar with the technical parasite names). I am not questioning the effectiveness of your product, I apologize if it sounded that way. I asked because I have not eaten any raw food for at least a year now - my system is delicate because of a health condition. I only asked so that I would know whether I need to do something additional for myself. I'm excited just to be able to introduce raw foods in my diet again. I'm so sorry if you were offended my my questions.

Anonymous said...

Not offended at all....although I can see how it came across that way. I just wonder why a lot of consumers don't just naturally believe that the product works...want to make sure we aren't coming across as a gizmo or gadget but rather as a truly sound solution that everybody can trust in. My apologies, sometimes I'm in a rush answering these and I should always take the time to read them over a couple of times before I hit that publish button. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Steve - Your product doesn't come off like a "gadget" at all! You answer our mildly paranoid questions so scientifically and in such detail. With so much info out there (that seems to constantly change), it's easy for us to get confused. I did speak with someone from your company before I typed my first blog. She was great, but told me that your product didn't distinguish good bacteria from bad - it killed everything (so I was just planning on taking a food enzyme with my produce). Also, she said it was never tested for effectiveness against parasites. She said I could ask you to be sure. Glad I did! I just drove 50 miles to pick one up - couldn't wait for shipping! With a revolutionary product like this, un-confusing the masses seems to come with the territory. You do an awesome job.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for letting me know that...I just fired our call center staff! heehee...just kidding! But I did give them a quick update so that they can answer these questions properly in the future. Enjoy your lotus!!

Anonymous said...

Hilo Steve,

"the cost to manufacture just went up 15% but we held our prices to our retailers." I'm thinking if your product can reach the mass market, you can probably benefit from economies of scale and bring down the cost, and therefore pass the savings to consumers. If it's such a good product, every Canadian should have it, why only the health food eaters? I also think you should continue to market it through large retailers like Canadian Tire and Home Depot. They offer substantial discounts on selected products every week. If I can buy one from them @ discounted price, I will, but not at regular price. Many other people will do that.

Hi. I sent an email prior to discovering this blog. This is my first experience with a blog! OK I have had my Lotus over a year and am wondering if it is still working. It used to show some air bubbles coming up and now it doesn't. The cartridges that I received with the unit had green crystals and only recently i read online that they are supposed to turn green from an original orange color. So my question is, am i really sanitizing anything or just wasting electricity? How can I know my lotus works and get non expired booster cartridges. Also i want to know about the mop. Thanks, Virginia in California

Anonymous said...

Virginia, if your lotus hits 100% on the LCD then it is working fine. Of course, the best way to find out is with the spray bottle because with produce you do get that message every now and then that tells you to change the water and run it again. There are only two reasons why the unit won't get to 100% on the LCD otherwise, first, your tap water is contaminated and you're going to have to use filtered water, second, the unit is broken. Of your unit does have problems then call the 1-800 number on the unit and we have a great trade in program if the unit is out of warranty.
For fresh cartridges, you can buy them in a lot of different places, from our website to all of the retailers listed under our 'where to buy' section.
I will add, you should only see small 'micro' bubbles when the lotus is running, they are visible, but you should have to look really close to see them.

Anonymous said...

I've noticed that when I do run my lotus, water is puddling underneath the unit. This happens no matter the attachment I use (toothbrush, bowl, or spray bottle). How can I stop this?

Anonymous said...

Is it normal for the lid to be too small for the bowl? My lid has never been able to fit all the way on the bowl... was hoping it would eventually "stretch" but it is obvious now that the material will not. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

I recently purchased the Lotus LSR100. I did a test whereby I ran back-to-back charging of water in the spray bottle. The first cycle took a little over 2 min to complete. Surprisingly, the 2nd cycle also took the same amount of time. Why did the 2nd cycle take so long to reach 100% when the water was already ozonated from the first cycle?

Does running back-to-back cycles with the sprayer increase the sanitizing properties of the water? Is there any harm in doing this?

Anonymous said...

Shouldn't be any water under the unit at all. Does it still get to 100%?

Anonymous said...

Lid and bowl should fit. Call our customer care and they will send you a new set.

Anonymous said...

Our minimum time to run will always be that 2 minutes and 20 seconds. The only time it is different is if it is having trouble charging the water then it will run up to five minutes before it finally gives up. There is absolutely no harm in running it back to back...we do this while we do demos or shows. Running back-to-back does increase the charge in the water but you are already able to sanitize with just one run as well...as long as it gets to 100% that is.

I am very interested in the Lotus Sanitizing System. If you can answer these questions adequately, I am ready to buy it immediately. I have several very serious issues; I hope you can help clarify them.
I recall studies mentioned in the newspaper about antibacterial soap. The main point of the article was that washing with antibacterial soaps was not healthier than using regular soap, because by killing off (most)all the bacteria, (similar to the excessive use of antibiotics), of the tiny amounts left, say .0001 percent,or some minute amount, these bacteria just continued to mutate into stronger and more virulent forms, by the continual use of antibacterial soap. So could not using the lotus system contribute to this problem?
What about the enzymes or good flora present on our hands? I guess I am asking, could our body actually be harmed being in contact with the super charged water (after all stated is 50 times stronger than bleach) as we use it to clean our home, let alone gargle with it as some on the blog have mentioned?
Does the super charged water kill the "good" microbes on our skin that help our bodies maintain balance and immunity to toxins?
What about the "antibiotic resistance effect" I have mentioned earlier. Could widespread use of this product contribute the mutation of "super microbes"?
I appreciate your openness and willingness to address these very serious concerns. Thank you very much.
-Concerned and interested in Iowa

Iowa,
Any research I have found on the web contradicts the theory that as you kill off bacteria that it mutates into more powerful versions.
With the lotus, we don't really sell it as a replacement for soap, more a replacement for all of your household cleaning products. Even green cleaners aren't safe and ozone in water is know to be more effective than bleach, yet perfectly harmless on your skin. Take a quick search on the web and every Olympic swimming venue, and even my swimming pool at my home, use ozone technology. If athletes, and my kids, can swim in it for hours a day then you can rest assured that it is safe to come into contact with. When it comes to produce, it is one of the only processes that are FDA and USDA approved as a food sanitizer.
I don't have proof myself on the enzyme or 'good' bacteria questions that are out there but there is lots of research on the web to once again back up that ozonated water does not harm any of these.
I also would like to add, there is no way you will ever clean or sanitize, let alone disinfect every single surface you will ever come into contact with. None of us want to live in a bubble. What you do want to do though is make your food safer and the air you are breathing healthier. Only way to do that effectively is with the lotus. I don't know of another product on the market proven to kill bacteria like EColi and Salmonella on produce or that has passed all of the rigorous testing to prove that we not only sanitize, but we also clean better than the best chemical cleaners out there on the market.
I hope this answered your questions..feel free to write back..and search our buzz and test results section to learn even more about how you too can become a happy lotuser!

I purchase organic fruits and vegetables when possible primarily to reduce my exposure to pesticides. Since the Lotus can neutralize much of the pesticides on produce, I am hoping to reduce my grocery bill by purchasing nonorganic produce and cleaning them with the Lotus. Do you have any recommendations on which nonorganic produce the Lotus can most effectively rid of pesticides?

Anonymous said...

What is the difference between the LSR100 and the LSR125? How much will the LSR125 cost and how can we purchase it?

Anonymous said...

The organic/non-organic produce question is a tough one. Based on recent studies, it is definitely recommended to continue purchasing organic for the health benefits. With organic, you have to worry about bacteria, and believe it or not, pesticides too. Yes, pesticidies....they are just organic pesticides. Keep in mind, when three people died of EColi poisoning on spinach, it was organic spinach. With organics, it was probably grown in some sort of bacteria as fertilizer, sorry to bring this all to light, so you do have to sanitize them somehow once you get them home to ensure safety.
As to which pesticides the lotus works best on, and in turn which produce, that is difficult to answer as there are some 3,000 different types of pesticides out there. All produce does have to pass testing to ensure they don't have too much pesticides on them but, in my mind, it is the culmination of all these trace amounts that leads to the toxic burden our bodies currently carry.
I don't think I answered you question but hopefully I shed enough light to help you make your decision?

The display is the only difference between the LSR125 and the LSR100, one has an LED display whereas the other has an LCD display. Currently, we do not sell the LSR125 model anywhere.

I've had a water purification system since they were named "Calypso" and it sure looks identical to the Lotus. I'm wondering why I can't use the water from it as a sanitizer as long as I pour the water from the processing jug before it goes through the filter.

Anonymous said...

The old 'Calypso' model, very similar to our Water Treatment System, doesn't charge the water nearly as high as we do in the lotus Sanitizing System. The Sanitizing System puts about 10 times the amount of super-oxygen into the water vs. the Water Treatment System.

Can I put a whole hed of lettuce in the bowl? It would likely have to be cut in half to fit, and I know the food is supposed to go in the bowl not cut. Any suggestions working with a head of lettuce? Thanks.

Anonymous said...

I don't believe a whole lettuce will fit in the bowl unless you do cut it, or tear the leaves off as if you were about to make a salad. That is exactly how we prepare lettuce at my home but maybe someone else out there can share with us what they do with lettuce?

Thanks that answered it, I knew we are supposed to put food in solid and uncut, I couldn't see why that would need to be he case with lettuce, and it seems not to be. Thanks.

I just started to use the SS for fruits & veggies I just bought. One set of them took 3 tries of going through the cycle, pouring it out, and replacing it with clean water. And the F1 code STILL came on. I had done 2 other bowls before - one bowl took 1 run, the other took 2 runs. In the current run it is one green pepper, 2 vidalia onions, and garlic.

I'm just trying it out -- it doesn't say in your manual what should NOT be put in it. Maybe it's the garlic?? :)

Has anyone put onions in this - and garlic for that matter? Do they survive after being emerged in water?
Thanks,
Rebecca

I have not yet had luck using the sanitizing system for mold/mildew, nor have I seen great cleaning results or stain removal. Could I be doing something wrong??? I am especially hoping it could help keep some mold under control until my husband can repair our tub surround. Any advice would be great (re: mold removal, cleaning or stain removal). Thank you.

I've been amazed at the stains I've gotten out with the spray bottle and their rags. It takes a bit of time, spray and scrub a few times, but it workd. The first few bottles aren't as affective, but once it gets going it goes. Wait and see what Steve says, it should be working for you. K

I purchased the Lotus Sanitizer as I thought it would make conventionally grown produce free from pesticides and safer to eat. In fact the website that I purchased the Lotus from even had an accompanying video on organic produce not being all that it is meant to be, and the marketing gave the impression that lotus sanitized produce will be safer/cleaner/less pesticides than organic produce. It also described the Lotus as removing 99% pesticides...which is a bit different than the 50-99% mentioned in this blog.

No offense, but the marketing on the Lotus regarding pesticides is a bit misleading...

In earlier posts Steve, you answered questions on pestcides mentioning that they were generally not recognised as being absorbed into the produce and remained on the outer surfaces - this is not correct:

The results of an investigation on pesticides in produce by the USDA Pesticide Data Program found that "Washing before consuming is highly recommended because it helps decrease the pesticide residues present on the surface of the vegetables, BUT THE MAJORITIES OF POLLUTANTS ARE ABSORBED INTO THE PLANT AND CAN'T JUST BE WASHED AWAY. Some pesticides are specifically created to stick to the surface of the crops and they don’t come out by washing. Peeling can help eliminating some of the chemicals but not all, and a lot of important substances will be discarded with the skin."

In fact, some seeds are now being treated with chemicals and pesticides before planting, to deter pests. Pesticides are IN the produce, absorbed INTO the produce and ON the skins of produce.

Would I purchase the Lotus again? YES. But only from reading this blog and seeing the integrity of Steve's in replying to the bloggers many questions... I think the marketing of the Lotus needs to be refined as it comes across as a bit misleading (again, no offense intended).

Anonymous said...

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We definitely do not intend to mislead and try to make sure that we do point out what and how we did our testing with pesticides. I do have to say though that through all of our experts, this is not the case with pesticides, that is, that it only stays on the surface and does not internalize. I will have to get the information together as I definitely want to make sure I have my facts straight. Actually, if you could see our protocol on how we test for pesticide reduction, they do test it all internally as well, which has me thinking now.
On the organic story, we definitely recommend still buying organic as it is proven to be healthier for you. However, you must definitely sanitize these fruits and vegetables as they could contain organic pesticides, and were more than likely grown in an environment where it would be prone to coming into contact with some bad bacteria. In fact, our product sells best through the organic grocers and the smaller health food stores across the country that currently carry our product.

Anonymous said...

There was a recent study done which lists the 20 fruits & veges according to 'most' and 'least' pesticides. All produce was washed and peeled if applicable ie. ready to eat.

Oranges were listed at number 20 of the 'most' pestcides list. This result was after the orange had been washed and peeled, and was ready to eat.

So clearly, pesticides are absorbed into the produce and don't just stay on the skins.

I wish it wasn't the case, but it is and has been proven :-(

Google the study, it's everywhere online.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for that information. I will also pass that by the experts we use in the food safety field and get back to you if there are studies out there that prove the contrary. There are just so many different toxins out there that are used to preserve and extend the life of our fruits and vegetables, at least it is good to know we can remove quite a bit of them.

Anonymous said...

Is there any reason that regular bleach cleaner makes mold/mildew disappear, but nothing seems to happen when I use the Lotus water? Can you suggest anything to get rid of mold/mildew with the Lotus? According to previous post, it is claimed that the sanitizer works well, but we have had no luck. Thank you.

I love the Lotus sanitizing system. I am, however, concerned about the long term safety of using the system daily. Often when I use it (especially the bowl unit) after emptying it into the sink I will notice that my throat feels itcy, my eyes sting a little and somtimes I get a headache. These symptoms usually go away after about an hour. I googled "effects of ozone" and it seems these symptoms can be attributed to ozone. Am I doing long term damage to myself and family?

Anonymous said...

Mamaof2, when the unit is running, are there any large bubbles coming out of the center 'docking' area?
This is the only real sign of a malfunction of the unit.

Anonymous said...

Our unit kills mold and mildew. The black mold and mildew left is already dead and it needs to be scrubbed off. Bleach just 'bleaches' it but we don't discolor and we don't have any abrasive action so my recommendation to everybody is to use an abrasive sponge if the cleaning cloth isn't sufficient enough.

Anonymous said...

Mamaof2,
I just realized I forgot to answer the second part of your question. We put the ozone in the water where it is perfectly safe and effective. In air, ozone is a known lung irritant, but we are fully approved to UL, CSA and all other global standards that test to ensure we do not put out ozone to the environment.
I like to usually add that every Olympic swimming venue has to use ozone to purify the water they swim in....if Michael Phelps can swim in ozonated water for over 8 hours a day for how many years in a row now then I believe it is safe to say that there are no long term issues you and your family need to be concerned about.

Anonymous said...

Is there any health risk if vegetables/fruits are cut or trimmed before being sanitized?? I realize it is recommended to process whole, but sometimes it is necessary to cut or trim (ie. lettuce, grapes that have come off stem, etc.) Also, i believe I have done some strawberries after removing the leafy tops. Will this cause any health problems or do you suggest to process whole for other reasons? Hope this makes sense. You do an awesome job answering the many questions!!

Anonymous said...

There is absolutely no health risk if you were to consume a fruit or vegetable that had a cut. We are pure and simply ALL natural, just water and oxygen and we revert right back to that. If anything, it will get into those cuts and kill any pathogens or toxins making your produce safer to eat. With certain produce, you have no choice but to cut before you eat them as they are so large and do not fit in the bowl. About the only thing I always say to watch out for is juices from the fruit or vegetable getting into the system as this will definitely effect our ability to get to 100%. In these cases, you may want to charge a bowl of water to 100% and then place the cut produce in this water for anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes. I hope my answer helps???

Hey Steve,

I've used your product almost 3 years now and we still depend on it with confidence.

My plants don't die anymore (I'm very forgetful), because whenever I've got leftover water in the spray bottle, I go find one that needs a drink instead of wasting it down the drain. I figure it's the electric storm water they'd get if they were outdoors in the tropics.

My sink basins and kitchen sponges and tools stay sterile, because I'm now in the habit of washing them out with the lotus veggie water EVERY time I drain the bowl - two birds with one stone. I still soak the sponges in their own cycle once in a while, but using the leftover water this way does seem to keep the sink and tools a little fresher all the time.

I throw the berry & herb plastic containers in the sink, and give them a rinse with the finished bowl-water before putting the dried produce back in them for storage in the fridge. I figure there must be bacteria in the package that held the fruit also. Everything keeps longer, especially if it is dry before going into the fridge.

We've got units on each floor of the house now, in kitchen, laundry and bathroom, ending running up and down the stairs with bowls and bottles of water!

But the day you make a tap-ready continuous-supply consumer version, we'll be first in line.

I keep finding new uses for it. I'm still amazed at watching the grease pour off our range vent screen, just by spraying it. The residue I've found in the crevices of our dishwasher just by spraying a stream into the seal & liner cracks has been disturbing, but it's gone with the lotus.

Glass is just great: one damp, one dry cloth, and the polish sparkles without suffering a single breath of ammonia. Same for stainless steel.

Anything that spills, I figure just washes whatever it fell on, and I don't have to worry about counter cleaners falling on wooden furniture or soap on a slate floor, or laundry bleach onto what I'm wearing, because I don't need a special product for each one - just wipe up the spilled water, and whatever it touched is clean in the process!

The more I use it, the more uses I find, especially for previously hard-to-reach or awkward cleaning/sterilizing problems.

And it is such a relief to have not a single chemical product in our home anymore - or in our lungs, stomachs, bloodstreams and brains.

My latest wish for improved design: that you will find a way to get the bottle to spray upside-down. I've discoved numerous little cleaning jobs, especially of microbe-collecting crevices too narrow for a cloth or scubber to reach, that are very effectively cleaned just by the force of the lotus shot-spray.

Unfortunately, once the bottle goes sideways, or upside-down, it doesn't work. I try to fill up the straw by tilting it back into the water again, but that only gives a blast or two and not continuous pumping.

The job would speed up immensely if there was a way to keep the water in the spray tube no matter what position the bottle is in.

Let it be a challenge to you!

Even with the latest listeria scare, I thought, well, we don't buy factory-processed meats anymore, but the lotus wash would have taken care of that, if we did.

We recently went on a two-week road trip across parts of Canada, and took our water treatment system with us. Was THAT a great idea and relief! We plugged it in everynight in our motel room, and poured the great tasting water into our non-bisphenol A stainless steel water bottles for the next day. It saved us a fortune on purchasing water, kept estrogen-mimicking BPA out of our bodies, and tasted clean and clear - a great contrast to the water served at restaurants, or out of the taps in the motels, or any of the bottled water we used to buy.

Every few months I run through this blog to check out the latest. I usually get a few new ideas or uses for the lotus from your customers. I also find as I understand better how the system works, I get even more ideas of my own on how to use it even better.

I also get a chuckle out of the questions that get asked here, and your replies. You put a great deal of effort into honest responses. Your openness, especially when there are genuine problems, and your willingness to improve the design and keep your customer well-informed won me over years ago. Your customer service is efficient and intelligent and hassle-free.

Glad to see you're still at it!

Hi,

I have owned the sanitizing system for over three years and am very happy with it.

2 questions:
I have had problems with the base unit and have had to send it back 3 times now. I am now waiting for my replacement unit. Why am I having so much trouble? I do have hard water. The last time it would stop processing after it got close to the end of the cycle.

Can I clean after the 15 minutes?

Thanks.

JBC,
I am not sure, I will see if I can pull your returned unit and have our lab guys check out what is going wrong. It is interesting, you have some people, like myself, that never encounter a problem and run the same unit for years, and yet our loyal customers get the units with problems...go figure.
As for your next question, we do have to find a way to be clearer about this, you can clean for about 45 minutes to an hour. The 15 minute timer is just to call out when you are no longer sanitizing or killing the full 99.99% of germs which isn't really necessary when doing windows or general cleaning.

Patricia,
Thank you so much for your generous words and all your feedback over the years. Ironically, I was doing a show in Las Vegas last week and was cleaning an item where I had to tilt the spray bottle and encountered the same frustrations you have....but it sounds like you thought of the idea first. I will see what we can do. Does anybody know of another product out there where this is not an issue? We may just have to change the material of the straw to something more flexible so that it can move around as the bottle is tilted?
Thanks again!

Hi again, I thought I saw a post recently where Steve recommended cleaning the "dead mold" out of the bowl from time to time. What is the best way to get that stuff out of all the little nooks and crannies?

Thanks,

Well look who's back, how have you been? The post on mold I responded to was with tile grout, at least that is what I assumed? We definitely do kill mold but with no abrasive action to the lotus water you need to use something with bristles or some other abrasive action to scrub off the dead 'black' stuff.

We've had our Lotus unit approximately one month and we really like it. It cleans very well. In fact, things sparkle as a result of using the Lotus. We have laminate flooring throughout our home and it is the first thing we've used that gets these floors clean and of course does not leave any residue. It does a terrific job on cleaning showers and making them shine. I decided to give it a try on a very greasy portable convection oven that had more grease in it than it should have. I could not believe how it broke that grease down and made it look brand new (the interior is stainless steel)! I might add, nothing else had ever cleaned this oven thoroughly like the Lotus did! It also works great on cleaning grills! I've used the bowl less, for cleaning vegetables, etc., but I'm also impressed with the results in that area too. When I have leftover Lotus water I give it to my plants and spray the leaves with the water and it helps them tremendously. So, in most ways, I am more than satisfied and thus far feel it was a good purchase.

Good morning! I have both Lotus systems and love them!

But now I need help, please. My Sanitizer is only about 6 months old and will no longer get to 100%. It will stay at 99% for as long as I let it run. This is with both the bowl and spray bottle. I put a new cartridge in it last weekend and used it to clean all my produce with no problem so it's not the cartridge. But just in case, I put another new cartridge in today and it still won't get past 99%.

I need to clean today and have no juice! Please advise.

Thank you very much.

I just got my sanitizer and noticed that the spray bottle nozzle has several holes instead of the standard 1 hole nozzle. This seems to make it spurt out the water in a more uncontrolled manner than a regular squirt bottle. The bottle also is very small so I run out very quickly when cleaning something larger. Can I ozonate the water in the big bowl and then pour it into a larger standard squirt bottle instead of using the provided one?

Could you please explain how to go about this? It seems very irresponsible and wasteful to throw them out.

Also, mine don't seem to be lasting as long as they used to. Do you recommend storing them in ziplock baggie overnight to prevent them from de-moisturizing the entire house?

Anonymous said...

Val, something has either gone wrong with the system or with your tap water. Can you try running the spray bottle with filtered water and let us know if it gets to 100%? If it does, then you know the system is working fine.

Anonymous said...

You can definitely do as you wish and use which ever spray bottle you prefer. We are always looking for suggestions on better spray nozzles. You may even be able to take the spray nozzle you like and place it on our bottle. We do sell the larger bottle online as well if you need more volume. When you charge the water in the bowl, you can use the spray bottle setting, should charge that bowl if it is just water only in there in the 2 minutes or so.

We have thought of setting up a recycling program on those cartridges, just haven't followed through with anything yet....I am open to ideas?!?! The material inside that cartridge is biodegradable and non-toxic so no worries about it going into a landfill.

Steve,

I just purchased the sanitizer and so far it seems to appear to be working mechanically. I'm not sure however what types of cleaning the charged water is best at. For example when I sprayed it in my showers and scrubbed it didn't seem to make it any easier vs. regular water and I tried it on dishes and the water doesn't cut the grease. Not sure if cutting grease is an advertised use for ozonated water but I know stain removal is. Problem is many stains are oil based so if it doesn't cut grease I don't have much confidence it will remove many stains.

Maybe you guys can create a list of what the charged water is best at and what it's not recommended for. I know many people will try to use this product for 'off label' uses thinking it's doing something when maybe it's not meant to.

In any case I've been thinking about an 'off label' use and that is maybe I can use the charged water for cleaning and soaking my contact lenses? Right now I use a product that uses hydrogen peroxide to soak the lenses in overnight but requires a special lens case that contains a neutralizer agent. Since your product produces water that is supposedly close in characteristic to hydrogen peroxide what do you think about using the charged water for lens cleaning? It would save me a lot of money on contact lens solution!

Regards,

AL

Hello AL,
I'm not sure of the contact lens solution, but if you're willing to give it a try, please give us the feedback.
I'm a bit surprised about the shower and your grease results. When it comes to grease, I have been in to see some of the largest fast food restaurant chains and the first thing they say when they see me pour it over grease is that they have never seen anything cut grease like that before. I believe somewhere in the earlier phases of this blog we had users that had said they had grease stains on their stove top that only the lotus could remove, in your case, is it something that is really baked on?
On the shower side, ironically, I am currently in Las Vegas working with one of the largest casino/hotel groups to replace their chemical programs to clean all of the rooms. It has been going so well that we are also cleaning restrooms and gaming machines on the casino floor now too. When it comes to showers, I know for a fact that it will clean as well as the best commercial bleach on the market, you just may need to use one of those abrasive sponges (3M makes a good one) as we do not have any abrasive action in the water.
When you get a chance, read the test results for cleaning from the TURI institute. A 3rd party commissioned these and they were nice enough to give us the report because even they were blown away at just how well we clean everyday problems. For us, this is great, it not only proves that we sanitize, but that we also clean...and they even compared it to straight water to prove that we do something to the water to make it a better cleaner. One thing I do when I am showing people the product is have them smell the water in the bottle after it is charged...not water anymore...but more the smell that you get oustide after a nice lightning storm..yes, you are now working with the power of Mother Nature!
I will add, I just had a deodorizing experience in a room here. I should start by saying we are doing all the smoking rooms here in one of the towers. Well, someone smoked pot in a room so they called my in to take a wiff and see how the lotus would do. I let them spray it around and then walked back into the room...not a trace...the same goes for all of these smoking rooms, in most cases you can't even tell a smoker was ever even in the room! Tonight they have a room that someone threw up in...I will let you know tomorrow how everything turns out. I know from other customers that we will have no problem cleaning that carpet and getting rid of the smell from the room but I am curious if it works out the exact same in a commercial setting like this.
Let me know if you continue to have problems...and make sure you aren't on the mist mode but that you are streaming that water out of the nozzle. We lose a little power when we are in the mist mode...still strong enough to kill odor causing bacteria but not the best on stains. I actually take the nozzle right off in some really heavy staining situations and pour the water right on.
Hope this all helps!!

I LOVE my sanitizer. I use it with a transformer in Egypt and it has saved our lives! We have a very dangerously contaminated food supply here (e.coli and amoebas mainly), but I can now treat all my fruits, veggies and meat with confidence.

Please advise how to recognize when booster cartridge need to be changed. The "indicator eye" never seems to change colour on ours. All I see are through the little round window are some black granules. No orange; no lime green; just black granules. If I tilt the cartridge to look behind the granules, all I see is a grey-ish lining inside the cartridge window. My latest cartridge has been in 6 months. I just changed it anyway, but see no colour changes to guide me. (All the replacement cartridges I have in reserve also look the same. Just little black granules.) Any advice?

We now own a Lotus sanitizing system. We have a few questions.

1.) What is the difference between sanitizing and sterilizing?
2.) We also own an Enki oxygenating watering can. Are the Lotus/Enki processes the same? Does the Enki simply infuse more O2 in the water?
3.) If we used the processed water from the Enki in the Lotus product would the resulting treated water be more efficient? Would it have a higher O3 content?

Thanks

Anonymous said...

Egypt, your cartridges are expired. When they are dark green they have gone way past their due date. They cartridge should start with the beads orange, unless the vacuum-sealed bag opened by mistake somehow? Another good rule of thumb is that it will need changing about every 3 months.
Glad to hear the system is working fine on a transformer!!

Anonymous said...

Sanitizing is killing 99.99% of bacteria and viruses under certain conditions. I believe disinfecting is killing 99.999% of bacteria and viruses along with the spores (eggs) under certain conditions. Sterilizing is even higher of a kill rate but I'm not sure of the protocol as we have never looked into being a sterilizer.
I have to admit I am not familiar with the system you are speaking of. In any testing we did in our lab, it is very difficult to infuse even more O2 into your water as the aerator on the end of your tap is built to do this already and does it quite effectively. We are infusing O3 into the water which is a lot different. You can see by our TURI test results that we do in fact turn the water into a cleaner and sanitizer that is as effective, if not more effective, than your chemical cleaners (and that includes your green cleaners) that you are currently using.
Our system always works better with filtered water so it wouldn't hurt to use your water from your system in the lotus. As long as it hits 100% you know the system has charged the water.

Steve, I had good experiences the Water Treatment System and recently took the plunge with the Sanitizing System. I find myself using it more and more as days go by. My question is when I'm processing with the spray bottle, I find that sometimes the 'wheel' at the base of the bottle spins, and sometimes not, is there something wrong with my unit or the bottle? Is the spray still effective when the 'wheel' does not spin?

I also have the wetmop, and initially, the spray did not work. After some rejigging, the spray did work, but it was more like a trickle of water than a spray, is this how it is designed to be? Also, maybe it's just me, but I can't seem to dissasemble the wetmop for easier storage. Could you please advise me how I can do this? Thanks.

Anonymous said...

My guess is that you don't have the spray bottle pushed down all the way and hence that is why the wheel is not spinning. It is merely there as a visual but you will still get circulation, just not optimal circulation. As long as the unit reaches 100%, you can be sure that we charged the water. You can also remove the trigger sprayer and give it a quick whiff to ensure it smells like outside after a rain storm.
As for the WetMop, it should spray out. Try it a few more times, maybe some small debris is stuck somewhere and will work itself out? You can disassemble that mop, but only at the point where the handle goes into the green body. I use a BIC pen and push on the button, the handle will slide right out.
Thanks for that feedback!

Steve, I did a little more research. The Enki system uses electrolysis to release the H molecule from the water. Presumably this enables the freed O molecule to become infused/suspended in the remaining water. Thus, the remaining water has a higher oxygen content. They call their water super-oxygenated like you do. Theirs has a higher oxygen content while yours has more muscular O in the form of O3 or ozone.

I own a parrot and as you may or may not know; they are VERY sensitive to cleaning solvents and also to bacterial infections from perches. I've owned my bird 1.5 years and this has been a big issue for me. Vinegar does only so much and I'm tired of people walking in and saying "why does it smell like vinegar?" To loosen dried poop I spent $25/week at Petsmart getting something called Poop Off if you can beleive it and that doesn't sanitize - it just loosens it up so you can get it off. Long story short it's a big problem and there are a lot of parrot owners out there with the same issue. I bought the sanitizer this past weekend and it replaces the vinegar/lemon, bleach and Poop Off. The bleach had to be used outdoors and this being canada I've been worrying about what I'll do in the winter. I also have 2 dogs and the water and a simple blot picked up the residue of an accident in no time - no worries about damage to the carpet. The dogs eat these corn starc!
h bones and like to do that on the leather couches. It leaves a corn starch residue on the furniture which unless I get it right away; dries there and is tough to get off. The Lotus water did it immediately. No damage to the leather. In other words I'm really liking your product!!!!!!!!!

Steve,
I wanted to see how well the Lotus
water degrease by testing it against cooking oil. I put
several drops of oil into 2 mugs.
I added regular water to 1 mug and
Lotus water (processed to 100%) to
the other one. After stirring the
water and emptying the contents of
the mugs, I find that both mugs
still felt oily.

Could you provide us with a test
we can do with household items
that demonstrate the superior
grease cutting properties of the Lotus water verses regular water?

Anonymous said...

The only personal experience i have is as a spot remover on clothes. I tend to get greasy and dirty when I'm working in the lab and so I use the lotus water as a spot remover before my wife does the laundry to help make sure all the stains come out. Otherwise, in the kitchen, I don't have any experiences besides working with some of the large fast food restaurants but maybe some of the other users can write in and tell their stories?
My only other example is ozone based laundry systems. The US Navy specifically developed ozone based laundry systems with a company called Cyclops about 15 years ago just for this purpose, to take the grease and oil out of their mechanics uniforms. To this day, you will find a good dozen companies around the US selling these types of systems because of their effectiveness and cost savings.
If you review our TURI testing as found under our test results, you will see that lotus water by far outperforms regular water, and even does as well, if not better in some applications, than your most powerful commercial chemical cleaning products. I know I've read testimonials somewhere from consumers who say their stove top has never looked better. I believe it was along the lines that the lotus water removed all that baked on grease and oil. Hopefully someone who reads this and has had similar experiences can write in again?

Anonymous said...

Steve,
Since you have had experience working
with the fast food restaurants,
please provide more details on how
they use Lotus water to cut grease.

Anonymous said...

During our tests with fast food restaurants we cleaned all of the stainless steel cooking equipment, which accumulates a lot of grease during the day. We actually did a test where we cleaned one half with their regular cleaner and another half with the lotus. Not only did our side look cleaner but it stayed cleaner longer. We also took the grease tray in front of the grill and just poured charged lotus water into it. Wiped up like a breeze afterwards. Sorry I can't name the chains but you would recongnize them instantly if I did. We are just working on our commercial systems as a result of the feedback from these tests, hopefully you will start to see our systems used by these organizations in the very near future.

hi Steve, I thought the unit would tell me when the cartridge needs to be changed. If it's still running it's cycle and saying it's 100%, then the cartridge must not need to be changed yet?

Anonymous said...

Some units give you a heads up that the cartridge needs changing but in all cases (except our commercial models) you have to look into that little window on the cartridge. If it is turning green in there, or if it is already dark green, then it needs changing. Should be about once every 3 months...

Someone posted a while ago suggesting a water bottle that can be sprayed while upside down. You can purchase a new water bottle and/or a replacement for the hard straw at http://www.spray-right.com/.

Anonymous said...

Hi Steve
we have both for your lotus water purifier and sanitizer and are pretty happy with it.

The only problem occurred is the sanitizer leaked once after a few month and we got replacement.

But this time it dint not only leak it drained all the water and my kitchen has been flooded.

Do you have more of this problems registered and if so, what does this cause?

kind regards

Rainer
PS: more of the problem, this getting expensive because of the shipping cost involved. about 70,00US each time!

Anonymous said...

Rainer,
I am not sure of what could cause that type of problem other than a hose falling off on the inside. We definitely not see this problem often, maybe a few times over the past three years. I apologize for the inconvenience and hence our generous waranty policy where we pay for shipping you a new unit each time.

Steve - Would the activated water from the Sanitizning System prevent apples from turning brown if I sprayed them after I sliced them? I know I can put lemon juice on them to prevent browning, but I'm trying not to change the taste of the apple. What do you think? Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Jackie, I'm not sure? What causes apples to brown after you slice them? Can you give it a try and let us know what you find out?

Anonymous said...

Steve, besides the humidity absorbing
cartridge, are there any
other replaceable components within
the Lotus? How long do the components that actually generate
the Ozone last? How many cycles
before they wear out?

Anonymous said...

That's it, just that cartridge and tap water. We test out to 5,000 cycles, or the equivalent of about 7 years if you use the product twice a day.

Anonymous said...

Steve - Apples turn brown due to oxidation when exposed to air, just like potatoes and bananas. In a sense, they "rust". This can be mostly prevented by putting them in water or putting some lemon juice on them. I wanted to try something different than lemon juice (not that that changes the taste much at all) and was curious if the ozonated water would prevent browning. I am happy to report that I cut the apple at 6:30 this morning and sprayed it with activated water and put it in a zip top bag, and now 6 hours later, there is only some very slight browning. Of course I don't know if this is from the activated water or not, but I doubt that spraying them with plain water would've had lasting results. And yes the apple was sealed in a plastic bag so that also limited air exposure. Interesting! And fun!

I want you to know that I love the product. The cleaning capabilities of the Tersano water are excellent and I love the life extension it gives to my produce. We are under mandatory water rationing here in the San Francisco Bay
Area, and I just keep a bucket next to the kitchen sink when I wash my produce, and use the leftover water on my potted indoor and outdoor plants. Waste not, want not.

Anonymous said...

I'm another amazed and happy customer! Wow, what great technology this is. I washed my 10year old stove down and it looks like it's never been cooked on. Chrome is gleaming, windows shine, mold in shower, gone. And my plants really seem to have perked up after watering them with some charged water.

Now, I'm walking around the house looking for things to spray! (The dog takes off whenever he sees me with that bottle in my hand, and yes, he does smell better:)

Just wondering, would it be okay to use the water that I clean the veggies with to clean the house with?

Is the water still charged after it does the veggie/fruit cycle?

Anonymous said...

Not necessarily. We monitor the produce sanitizing cycle a little differently and there is no guarantee the water is at a high enough level of a charge to still use afterwards for cleaning and sanitizing. Happy lotusing!!!!

Anonymous said...

I have been using the sanitizing system for nearly 6 months now and have found many uses for it. I originally got it to use on my veggies and fruits. Since I have an immune condition, I have been trying to use only organic products, and felt this would aid in removing further toxins from my home. I have been using it to clean with as well, and my stainless steel cooktop and granite counter tops have never looked this good and with this much ease of care.
My one frustration is; the three piece top used with the bowl always comes apart when either putting it on or taking it off. I've noticed it is getting looser each time I have to put it back together. Is there a new/improved top? If so how can I get one?
I agree with other people, this is a great product and a very user friendly site.
Thanks

The lid shouldn't be falling apart. Maybe call our customer care and have them send you just the lid assembly, without a new bowl? We can send one right from our lab and make sure it all fits properly so you don't have any issues going forward.

My sister just moved to Mexico; is there a way to get one down there?

Anonymous said...

Some new uses. We spray treated water into our dishwasher between washes. It cuts down on the odor caused by spoiled food. We spray a heavy stream on the dishes and utensils and end with a fine aerosol mist before quickly closing the door. We also own a Hoover Floormate hard floor washer. We fill the detergent container with treated water, with the machine off we spread the treated water on the floor and vacuum it up after about a minute using the spin scrub brushes.

We run two bowls of water through the treatment process twice and then dump them into the washing machine. We start the machine and select the cold water cycle. Before adding detergent, we let the wash cycle run for about 5 minutes. Unless we are imagining things, the clothes particularly the whites, appear cleaner/whiter than had we used hot water and chlorine bleach.

Now a question, must the treated water first come into contact with the surface being sanitized or can you first spray a paper towel or the microfiber cloth with the water and then wipe the surface down?

sue said...

run, the other took 2 runs.

Thanks,
Rebecca

Rebecca,
I find that if I peel the onions or garlic they process a lot faster, and yes, garlic does survive the emerging!

Anonymous said...

Mexico, I would order here in US and then have it shipped to her, either directly or you can ship it yourself?

Anonymous said...

Gadgetking, much safer to spray directly on the surface. Only because if the microfiber, or other wiping cloth, is contaminated then that will begin to break down the ozone in the water before it hits the surface you are trying to sanitize. If it is a fresh clean cloth, then I would think there is no difference.

I just found out this Lotus Sanitizing System when I shopped at Sur La Table yesterday...I am very interested in buying one.

I checked the website, and is confused on the product models. There are LBU 100, LBU 125, and LSR 100, and LSR 125. What the different between 100, and 125??? And is LSR is the smaller version of LBU (from pictures shown, it looks smaller)...

I also did some research on Amazon.com review, found out lots review having problem on F3 code...So, I am also wondering what the company's customer service?

Anonymous said...

I'm been using the Lotus for 3 months now. Today, the Lotus produced lots of bubbles when the cycle was at 96% complete and then it through up an F1 error. I reran
the cycle after changing out the
water and everything appears normal
again (cycle completed at 100%).

What could be causing the bubbles?
Is this an indication that my Lotus
is defective?

Anonymous said...

Sur La Table, yes, the LSR100 is our smaller and newer model. No more worries about F3's...that was a problem we had back in 2006.

Anonymous said...

Yes, if there are large bubbles coming out of the base into the attachment, the unit is defective. It is still charging the water but you need to call our customer care and get a replacement unit.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, Steve, I am still confused, is LBU 125 the newer version than LBU100 (it said coming soon on LBU 125)...

Anonymous said...

Oops, sorry, the 125 version is just LED vs. the 100 versions which are LCD. The LBU125 is sold at Costco (online) in a version called the LBU126 because we also include some extra filter cartridges.

Anonymous said...

thanks, Steve ;) Now, I can't make up my mind which one to get...LBU 126 looks like good deal, and cheaper at Costco, or LSR 100 is smaller for better counter space at Sur La Table....

Anonymous said...

Steve, Quick question. When I lotus red delicious apples they come out with a white film on them. I can't seem to get the film off afterwards. What is causing this and are the apples safe to eat?

Anonymous said...

That is the wax on the apple that is now exposed! In the past, you would have just eaten that. It is sanitized underneath and then sealed with the wax to make it last longer. The lotus santizes everything up to the wax and exposes it so that you can rub it off and know for sure that you have a safe apple to eat. It should just rub off with a cloth? It is amazing to be able to actually see what you have always just eaten in the past eh??

Anonymous said...

Great customer service! Steve, you posted a link (www.getlotus.com); I'd love to get that set-up as it's such a good deal. I am, however, concerned about entering all of my info (including credit card) on the first page. I much prefer to enter shipping and billing info, and then have a summary page that I know I can review before the order is submitted. Just food for thought...

Anonymous said...

Thanks Cara, we use an outside service for that page as that was our infomercial offer. It is secure but I understand your concerns. For us, such a balance, too many pages to go through and customers give up...
I will see if we can come up with a happy medium. Can you give an example of a website/shopping cart that seems to work with minimal steps and at the same time leaves you feeling all your information is secure?

Anonymous said...

Absolutely! Chapters has a quick and easy one at chapters.ca. I just grabbed a system this afternoon at Canadian Tire, and am pleased so far!

Anonymous said...

I have been using the sanitizing system for several months now, and I constantly find new uses for it. It by far cleans my stainless cooktop and my granite counters better than anything else I've tried: plus I know there are no chemicals around my food.
Yesterday my husband dropped a can of oil based stain on the concrete floor in the garage. I went to the kitchen and filled my bottle, and when it was ready I used it on the garage floor. He was skeptical, but after a few minutes, the floor was as good as new.
I do have a problem with the top for the bowl. It comes apart everytime I take it off when the cycle is complete. Is there a newer top I could get that won't do that?
Thanks,
Karen

Anonymous said...

Karen,
Please write our customer care people at wecare@tersano.com so that they can get all your information and get you a replacement lid.
Thanks so much for that great feedback! Help spread the word as that is our biggest hurdle, so many consumers still believe they need chemicals to do what you are doing. We have proven over and over again that we outperform chemical cleaners, and when it comes to green, we go way beyond as we are chemical-free. Green to me is like saying I only smoke light cigarettes. Most green cleaners still have all the same caution statements on the bottles but are good at fooling consumers because of the nice leafy images they put on the bottles.
Happy lotusing!

Anonymous said...

Karen,
You recently shared that the Lotus
worked great for removing oil-based stains on concrete floors. Have you tested the Lotus
on cleaning your dishes?

There have been several comments
on this blog about the Lotus working well at cutting grease,
but I cannot replicate it in my
home. The Lotus works well on my
fruits and veggies, but it doesn't
clean baked on grease and oils
from my dishes.

Anonymous said...

I know from our commercial side that there may be two things you are doing incorrectly with the lotus. First, make sure the cartridge is not expired and second, make sure that you are in stream mode, or just pour the water right on without the trigger sprayer even on the bottle. I have done the same oil/grease demo right on garage floors in front of potential customers, and even in the kitchens of some very well known fast-food restaurants, it definitely cuts oil and grease better than anything out there. You have to remember though, it doesn't replace your dish soap or your laundry detergent, but it makes both of those items work that much better.

Anonymous said...

Steve, do you have a Q&A page for your other product...the water treatment for drinking?

Hello,
I just purchased the LBU100 from Amazon.com. (I've been wanting one for quite a while, now I can finally get it!)
I know that the LBU100 has gotten some updates to it since it was first introduced.
How can I be sure I'm getting an updated model and not just some older model that's been sitting on a shelf somewhere?
Thanks....

Hi, first I would like to say that I have the Lotus Water Treatment System and very happy with it from day one. Hopefully you will be able to supply the product again in the near future. After reading the comments on this site regarding the Lotus Sanitizing System, I am quite convinced that it would be positive addition to my household. 3 weeks ago I bought the system. It works like a charm. Except about 4 days ago, I started to hear this high pitch noise coming from the base of the machine. I know it is not from the attachments because the noise is there whether I use the sprayer bottle or the bowl. Sometimes the noise is intermittent, sometimes it lasts the whole cycle. What is your take on this? Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Jan, that is the seal on our pump slipping a bit, it should go away. If not, call our customer care and see if they have a solution. Thanks for being a happy lotuser!!!

Hi Steve,

Love your products! I have been using them for about three years now. I was wondering if the lotus kills the norovirus - curious about it with all the news about outbreaks on cruise ships and hotels.
Thanks for your time.

Anonymous said...

What happened to the water treatment system? Why aren't you selling it now? Should I quit uing mine?

Thank you!

Anonymous said...

Gary, the quick simple answer is yes, ozonated water does kill the Norovirus. We haven't tested for it specifically but ironically we are just doing that so that we can verify this for our commercial accounts. Once we have these results, we will be sure to post them under our test results section.

Anonymous said...

I believe we have this somewhere on the Water Treatment System blog but what happened was that the manufacturer of that product decided to stop building it. We are only the distributor on that product, I only invented the Sanitizing System. There is absolutely nothing wrong with units that are out there, and we are still selling any stock that we had. Also, we will continue to carry service and warranty parts so that you shouldn't have to worry about what to do if there is a problem with your system.

Anonymous said...

Maybe I should have asked, why would you even consider not using it anymore? They stopped building Dodge Magnums but I still drive the one I own...never thought of asking Chrysler if I should be concerned? All kidding aside, unfortunately this was out of our control and we hope we can offer another water purifier at some point in the future.

Unknown said...

just got the system and the spray bottle leaked as the seal was not properly attached - anyone else have this problem? any solution without returning?

Anonymous said...

RV, just get those two plungers on the bottom to align properly. If you lift the bottle off the base at a particular angle instead of straight up, they tend to get out of whack and then you have this leak issue. Sorry about that, we are working on this problem.

Steve,
I have a question about a new unit on order from Vitacost.com. The unit is the LBU100 and now I am seeing information that it is an old model. I am confused as it is still on your web site. Am I buying an outdated unit that is not as effective or efficient as the "latest/greatest" model?

Anonymous said...

Ken, this is just our original design. These do run a little less as they take up a bit more countertop space but you are definitely not buying an inferior product.

Unknown said...

Steve, I love the system. But, a few questions:
1) my cartridge has no detectable color inside, neither green nor orange and it's brand new -- still only 5 cycles from brand new. Do I need to replace it, or can I use it?
2) Why do I need to replace it ever, if the machine still finishes cycles, thereby showing 100% clean?
3) My spray bottle only seems to have one setting no matter how much I twist the spray-bottle cap. So, I can't mist anything and I really want to use the mist function. Do I need a new spray bottle?
4) Is there any difference between the water I get from the spray bottle versus that I get from the bowl? Does the bowl simply give me more water per cycle?
Thanks.
Jason

Anonymous said...

Jason,
It is difficult to detect the color in a good cartridge. They are a clear to orange color. You will know once a cartridge is expired as it is more of a really dark green vs. that lime green that is on the label. We have been getting on the label maker for not having the correct pantone color on that for quite a while, thanks for the reminder to make this happen sooner than later! You should replace it as it does put about 3 times the amount of super-oxygen into the water. You will notice this most when you are sanitizing fruits and vegetables. With an expired cartridge, it will most certainly never finish in the minimum four minutes. We changed the spray nozzle as we found everybody was misting to clean and you do not get the best results when cleaning in this setting. Misting is for deodorizing only. To get a misting nozzle, either grab another nozzle that you like (they are all universal) or grind off the little tabs at the back of the black nozzle once twisted completely off. This will allow you to twist it on further getting you to that fine mist mode. The water in the bowl will charge to the same level (as long as you don't have any produce in it) as the spray bottle. I would just use the spray bottle setting as our programming checks both cycles differently.
Happy lotusing!
