Lotus Sanitizing System

The lotus Sanitizing system infuses water with super-oxygen, in the all purpose sanitizing bowl included with the system, to reduce bacteria and pesticides on foods. You can also use lotus to infuse water in the included spray bottle attachment and sanitize surfaces with one of the lotus microfiber cleaning cloths also included with the system.

Hi,

I was considering buying a Lotus LBU100 to sanitize sprouting seeds, I thought if I just soaked them in Lotus water for the initial 8-12 hour soak, that the initial first 15 minutes would kill any bacteria. I have been eating my own home made sprouts for years, with no problem, but thought this added step would add some safety. Anyone with any experience doing this ?

Adriana said...

Scruffy, the 15 minute count down is actually for sanitizing hard surfaces using the spray bottle. When you are using the bowl to sanitize your produce the sensors that are built in will let you know when they have been sanitized as the system will give you a 100% rady to eat on the digital screen. Once that is complete there is a 2 minute count down if you want to take the extra precaution by leaving the produce in the bowl for that extra time. I hope this helps!

I have a cherry tree in my backyard, and this year I bought a lopper to harvest the cherries before they fall overripe to the ground. I put the leftovers from my first harvest in the fridge, but when I went to pour a bowl at breakfast, I noticed maggots, or some kind of larvae, on them! So my next harvest I brought inside and Lotus'ed them straightaway (I hadn't seen any need before since there are no chemicals or anything on these cherries). I then placed them in an airtight container and refrigerated them. This morning, when I went to eat them, there were larvae among them, and the whole batch had to be chucked!

Does the Lotus not work on more developed life forms? I saw no larvae on any of the cherries from harvest to sanitizing to refrigeration, so I can only assume there were eggs or spores or whatever form of reproduction they use, already on the cherries. I was hoping the Lotus would get rid of all this, but apparently not.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Thanks,

~~Cheryl

Hi all,
To be fair to Tersano, I wanted to give an update on my experience(s) with the Lotus. A few weeks ago I was having problems with my third machine in a row and posted about the problems on this blog.

Since then, I have been in contact with Tersano and they had me ship my last unit back to them. Within a week, I had a replacement machine shipped to me. I should note, the replacement unit is the upgraded model, not the LBU100 I had been using.

So far the replacement machine has worked just fine. I'm hopeful it will continue to do so. The other units I had all quit working about 2 weeks into use, so I'm crossing my fingers that the new one will work well beyond that.

As I told Steve, it's amazing how hooked you get on using the Lotus everyday. The week or so that I was without one, I noticed how many times I had started to reach for it out of habit.

I'll keep posting about how the new machine (an LSR 100 by the way) works and how it's keeping up. Until then, I wanted to say thanks to Steve and to Adriana for their help in getting a replacement unit shipped. I had read previous postings on the great customer service from Tersano and was surprised that it wasn't up to the same quality. But, as Steve mentioned, hopefully it's on the upswing and will get back to normal.

I still believe in the product and the company, so let's hope the new unit works for a long, long time!

I really loved the product but was very unhappy with the customer service response to my problem.

I bought an LBU100 from JCpenny early june. I encountered a probem with holding down items that floated. On 6/23 I wrote this info on this blog and Adriana answered saying that she would send me a retainer if I gave her my mailing info, which I did. I never rec'd the retainer altho I emailed Adriana several times asking when it was coming. I finally returned the sanitizer. I really liked it and intend to look for one that already comes with the retainer.

If I buy it directly from tersano, what is your warranty and what is your return policy.

Adriana said...

Hello,

This is Adriana, it is too bad that you returned the product. If by chance I did not receive your email my phone number was also included in with my email address...if you would like to contact me and I can look up the shipment. I am normally very punctual with my responses...but I really am sorry that we could not get the retainer to you in time. Just in case my email adress is adrianas@tersano.com

My spologies.

On 6/11 I ordered your sanitizing system from JC penny. I have been using it and thru use have some questions. (1) - Many items FLOAT in the water and therefore don't get totally clean. I see that you posted that there should be a retainer with the system to hold everything down. I didn't get this with my unit. Where can I get it?? (2) - Also, water collects in the connector (where bowl attaches to base) Is this normal or do I have a problem? FYI: I cleaned 2 dirty sponges today and now they smell great! Hoping to hear from u soon

Hello Anonymous,

The reason that you do not have my direct number is because you never sent me an email as I mentioned to you in the blog. You needed to send me your information so I can follow up and know where to send the retainer.

LuckyCharm said...

Just an idea about email... Some programs or ISPs will flag even legitimate messages as spam if they contain certain words or phrases, or come from an ISP that's been blocked because of previous abuse. Bernardine, are you trying to send from a .ws instead of a .com, .edu, .org or other common domain extension? I've had that happen when someone tried to send to a Hotmail account. Also, are you using a neutral subject line like "Customer service request" with no punctuation? Adriana, have you checked your spam folder and filters?

Just a suggestion. I'll email you separately, Adriana, to request a retainer myself. I've been using a plastic lid on top of the floating produce to hold it down.

Also, I never heard whether Lotus can help keep larvae from growing on my homegrown cherries. The cherries look perfectly clean when I sanitize them, but when I seal them up and refrigerate them overnight, there are little larvae on them in the morning! Yecchhh...

Thanks,

~~Cheryl

Steve, dealing with customer service is becoming a "battle of wits". Without mentioning names, I am still awaiting a response to an email I sent on July 24th in response to an email from customer service on July 23rd. All emails require one follow-up email to obtain a response. When a problem is first reported I and perhaps "we" are first told "everything is fine with your appliance. It is not broken". Well everything is not fine. Only when the appliance repeatedly displayed trouble code "F7" did we finally get the OK to return it. We received a replacement appliance about a week after our return and it too does not work. It proceeds fairly normally up to 50% and then proceeds at a snail's pace to 86% at which point it shuts down displaying "F2". Alternate cycles produce large water bubbles. It also leaks through the bottom of the appliance. When we reported these malfunctions we were advised the appliance was run through 20 cycles and works. The leak was nothing to worry about as it will catch up. Well, it still does process water, regardless of whether we first process water to 100% on another appliance. The leak which is supposed to catch up drained the entire bottle through the bottom of the appliance into our kitchen cabinets. We left the bottle in place as the water had not been processed and served no use. Do you have any advise for me/us???

Gadgetking,

Definitely sounds like a problem with one of the hoses but I am baffled as we are checking all units with more than one person and even running those twenty cycles to make sure our guys are looking everything over. Can you work with our customer care to have that unit sent right to our lab as I would like to inspect that one myself. Sorry for all the troubles...thank you for your patience!

Anonymous said...

Can someone help me with a problem that has developed with my Sanitizer? This morning I used it with the bowl to clean several batches of apples and a couple of batches of homegrown green beans. I noticed that water was seeping out onto my countertop from the bottom of the unit, although the water level in the bowl did not decrease noticeably while processing. After I finished I left the unit on the counter and I have repeatedly wiped up water from the counter top . . . a good bit of water. Does anyone know what is going on? Thank you.

I would love to love this product. We purchased our 17 months ago, and have had it replaced due to a leaking base twice. Technical support now has no record of these replacements, and now we can only have them repaired for $50 a shot. This is too expensive for such a short life span. Really sad that this product won't work for more than a couple of months...

Anonymous said...

Margaret,
Out of curiosity, do you have the LBU100 model? I'm convinced that particular model is doomed. Many people have had numerous problems with that model but I haven't heard any problems with the newer, more expensive models.

Thank you, and thank you to the person that responded as well!
Help me please understand why people are quick to try to discredit us yet you don't see (at least I don't) anybody do the same against the chemical guys? I have been working (cleaning many rooms myself) for over a year now on the commercial side and I am VERY proud to say that we really do perform as well as the best chemical cleaners! Of course, we actually outperform them in many instances as well and about our only flaw is that we are non-abrasive and we don't foam. So, we use a 3M abrasive sponge in those instances where that may be required but we do that all with a chemical-free cleaner and also scent-free!! When it comes to the sanitizing side, we don't publish any tests that we do in house, so if we show a test where we kill 99.999% of bacteria or a virus, that is because we paid big bucks to have a lab test our product under strict protocol and lab conditions so that the appropriate regulatory body will accept our results. I have to snicker when somebody says they paid $10 for a test kit at a department store and that they found that our product doesn't work....how do I resond to that?!?!?
Anyway, thanks for all your support.
Take care!

LuckyCharm said...

Steve, might I make a suggestion? Much of the dissatisfaction appears to be confusion over how best to get help with questions and troubleshooting. This blog is great, but I think generally blogs are best suited to a "newsletter" type function; in other words, it would be primarily used for disseminating latest news, promotions, etc. from Tersano. For regular customer interactions, why not build an online community with a free online forum? These are great because they're searchable; they can be divided into sections (How-To's, Troubleshooting, Science, Ideas for Use, etc.) and moderated by volunteers; you can make important posts "sticky" so they'll always appear at the top of the screen ("For error codes, read this first"); and they can be located with search engines, so people who may have a Lotus and have not found this blog yet could find it with Google.

Just a thought. BTW, I never received a reply to my email requesting a retainer -- is Adriana still the point person on that?

We have had the Lotus system for over two years, and have given one to each of our children. With our unit, we have constantly had to deal with error code F1 when sanitizing fruit and vegetables. To get around it, we put clean water through the cycle, and, when the cycle is done, we put the fruit and vegetgables into the water for two minutes. Is this sufficiently cleaning our fruits and vegetables? Thank you.

Steve Hengsperger said...

Cheryl, Adriana is off on maternity leave, I will get someone else to follow up on that retainer right away. We just hired some additional staff for our marketing department and the newsletter idea was one of the main reasons. I will pass along your other ideas as well to make sure they find a nice effective way to implement a better Q&A section.

When it comes to fruits and veggies in the bowl and getting F1, I always recommend running throught he cycle at least 2 times before consuming or storing. Of course, even my wife gets impatient sometimes and only runs through 1 time, whether it gets to 100% or not she calls it good enough as you would have defintely removed any germs during that 8 minutes, it is just the pesticides that are giving the system a harder time...and don't be fooled, even organic produce uses pesticides, it's just organic pesticide....still skull and crossbones on the side of these packages...

Are you still selling the water treatment system? When I click on the link to buy now, I receive an error notification. Also, do you ship to FPO (military) addresses?

Anonymous said...

I bought a box of replacement filters and before I've had a chance to use them all, the indicator balls appear to be turning green inside their packaging.

Do the filters go bad after a while, even if not used?

I bought them from drugstore.com, FYI.

Steve Hengsperger said...

I'm not sure on the military addresses? Can you call our customer care and see if that option is avialable? We do sell the Water Treatment System still, and just received in a shipment of brand new units.

On the cartridges, they should not go bad from just sitting around. It is difficult to tell the difference when they are still good...I see orange and other here see green sometimes too as there is a blue background in there. I usually say to change when they turn a really dark green, they are expired for sure at this point. Of course, if the package is opened, it will expire in about 3 months even if the system is not used.

Hi, thanks for your blog and your ingenuity. I tried to use the spray bottle ozonated water on a simple t-shirt stain and there was no effect at all.

Also, I wonder how it's possible to know that a countertop sprayed with the ozonated water is now sanitized?
How important is the microfiber cloth?
LG

Steve Hengsperger said...

Leslie, when it comes to using the product on a shirt stain, it would work the same as Prosolve more than just a miracle spot remover. I would use the pour spout and soak the stain thoroughly, then put the shirt through the wash as you normally would. The ozonated water will act to break the stain apart, but then you still need the agitation and detergent in your washing machine to actually wipe the stain away. I like to compare it to cleaning and sanitizing a counter top. The ozonated water will either break down the bonds that hold a stain together (or kill any germs) but then you still need a cloth/rag/paper towel, and your hands, to wipe the dirt away.

The microfiber cloth is just something we like to use for streak free cleaning, you could use a paper towel, or whatever else you used in the past, but these green cloths are reusable and washable up to 300 times so they will last a long time.

If you used the product as directed, you know that the surface of a countertop would be sanitized, just as if you used Formula 409 or any other chemical product that claims sanitizing abilities. Our product is 3rd party tested to meet EPA protocol as a sanitizer on hard surfaces. We do a lot of testing all the time and all these test results are available on our website.

I love what the LBU does for me, but I have had three, and after about 6 mos of use, each has begun leaking from the bottom.
I do not abuse the machines, and after three, my conclusion is a design flaw. When I called Customer Service today, they denied having such a problem with the product. I asked them to have the main office to call me... they did not. If the leakage is not a design flaw, but a problem with how I use it, I'd like to know what that is.
My question to the bloggers is, how many of you have had this problem?
My question to Tersano is, has this design flaw been corrected in the newer models? If not a flaw, what am I doing wrong? Again, I do not abuse and have not dropped the machines.

Barb

Anonymous said...

Barb -
I have had the same problem and, like you, think it's a design flaw with the LBU100. I have not had any problems *knock on wood* since I upgraded to the pricier model. WIll let you know after a few months of use. I still love the product though. If this one goes, however, I can't afford to buy another.

Steve Hengsperger said...

Barb,
As far as we know there are no design flaws. We are trying to better understand the problem ourselves. First, where is the actual leak coming from? If it is from the series of slots in the back left corner, then that problem does usually correct itself. Yes, I am saying that sometimes it is okay for water to leak from the base of the unit as we do have safety features built into the units. If, however, it is pouring out of all the openings, then either a hose fell off or something else broke. We are not sure why hoses would fall off as they are all clamped on inside. Keep in mind, we have sold thousands of these and really do hear about this only once in a while. I do always recommend that you only use the base to charge the water, DO NOT rest attachments with water in them on the base station!
Hope this helps?

I had one of these about a year ago and absolutely loved it! Unfortunately, I kept getting an error and never could resolve it with costumer service. It had to be returned. I will be getting another but am confused with all the different model numbers. What is the difference between them?
The cleaning power was amazing. Bathrooms, kitchens, upholstery. I bet it'll work wonderfully on the cat litter box.
Is there anyway to use the water from the bowl as drinking water?

Just got another cartridge and the beads are green. The same color as the green dot on the cartridge. All the cartridges I've gotten lately are green. What's going on?

Steve Hengsperger said...

Pamela, the LBU100 is our original design and has a round shape, about the same size as a regular dish in your home. The LSR100 is our latest model with some new features and a small oval footprint.

Steve Hengsperger said...

Changing Woman. That should be dark green when you receive them. If it is a lighter green then you are still okay, it is more a problem with our sticker than with the beads. The color in that sticker should show a dark green, almost black. If your beads are dark somehow the vacuum seal bag failed. Please call or write our customer care and we will be sure to get you a good new cartridge.

Anonymous said...

Steve,
Thank you for your response. HOwever, the leakage is not occasional, nor slight. It is a consistant minor flood underneath the base. I used a towel underneath to absorb. From the 'bleaching' action on the color, I could tell that the water vacated through the little rectangular opening in the middle of the base unit at the bottom. With three units within 2 years, each with the same problem, I still suspect a design flaw. Either that or a usage problem that should be identified and noted in your manual.

2nd question: I'm still unclear as to the color that the filter beads should be when we receive them, and when they should be tossed. Clearly your coloring system on the label is problematic.
I remember that when I first began with this product, the new beads were orange in color, turning to green when they should be disposed.

Barb

Anonymous said...

Barb,
We have made changes in our rework department as I can see if you had this happen once, but I'm not sure why it would have ever happened more than once. My apologies, it is definitely not a design flaw, just carelessness on our end.
On the beads, they should start out orange, but are good even when they are orange and light green. Once they are a very dark green (almost black) or once you have had them in the open for 3 months, they need to be replaced.

Uh-oh, figures it'd be a Friday evening at the start of a long weekend when my Lotus decides to go on the blink! With both the bottle and the bowl, it will run for about 5 seconds before beeping once and stopping. It doesn't turn off or give any error code, but reverts to the display you get when you first plug it in.

I will call 1-800-808-1724 first thing Monday morning, or Tuesday if they're taking Columbus Day off, but in the meantime, is anybody from Tersano monitoring these boards?

Thanks much,

Hey Cheryl, I'm trying to keep up with the board, but was away at a show all last week and then did take a few days off for our Thanksgiving long weekend - eh?! Otherwise, Adriana used to help me keep an eye on this but she is off now for a while on maternity leave.
I'm not sure what the problem could be but sounds like there is a problem if it is just resetting itself and not even giving an error code. Give it a try again today, make sure the bottle is firmly pushed into the base and full of water and let me know what happens.

Thanks!!

Hi Steve,

I finally did call customer service (yes, I tried it again the next day, same result, then tried with a little vinegar in the water -- no luck). They sent me a shipping label and I returned it yesterday, tracking #1Z05R70R9091192197, scheduled to arrive in Dearborn, MI on 10/20. Hopefully they'll note that the package is in transit and ship out a replacement today!

I would have sent this via email, but I'm not sure which address is monitored these days. This blog seems to be the easiest way to contact you -- and as a bonus, by answering questions here, other people can benefit from the replies and maybe not have to call customer service so often! :-)

Hi Steve,
I also have a question that maybe others are experiencing. I have been finding small, black "glumps" of something at the bottom of the spray bottle attachment (on the inside). There are about 3-4 of them in each of my bottles. They are hard to get out (from where they sit) -- they're pretty sticky, too, meaning I can't just put some water in the bottle, shake it up and dislodge them. I also notice the same kind of spots on the underside of the bottle in the water stopper portion. I do drain all the liquid and let the bottle dry after each use. Any idea on what would be causing this or if they will affect the water at all?

Hey Steve

i have both units and have been drinking the sanitizing Ozone water solution for about a year now. i first make some drinking water using the Lotus water treament unit and then use that same water to make the sanitizing solution.
i love the taste and drink some most every day for about a year now .. i also use the sanitizing solution as a sinus wash when there are bad allergy conditions and can't believe how much it helps my allergies after doing so. My sinus stay clear for 24 hours after doing this and my allergy response is greatly reduced

My question is do you think i am endagering my health in any way by doing so ?
There are many therapies that encourage the drinking of Ozone water and i can tell you that i feel Supercharged after drinking the sanitizing solution. It like the taste and have never had a bad reaction from doing so either so .. i guess i am more like asking what you think about what i have been using my Lotus for ..
Ps i use it for all the normal stuff too ..

LuckyCharm said...

I will be looking forward to the reply to the previous comment also, because I've seen ozone water sold in my local pure water store. But I think there was an additional step they used to turn it into drinking water. Interested to know what the difference is...

It appears this board has gone unmonitored for two entire months now. I've spoken to their customer service dept. by phone (800-808-1724) and they said somebody should be checking it, but that was a while ago. Apparently the message didn't get passed on to whomever ought to be doing it.

I probably won't have a chance to call them tomorrow, because I'm dealing with some nasty plumbing issues right now, but if someone else could, that might help. This board is really helpful when seeking information about the system.

Anonymous said...

Well Steve is busy i guess ..

It is i who wrote the comments above about using the cleaning solution as a nasal wash. i first process water to drink in the machine for drinking water then use that water to make cleaning solution. I personally use that water - right away - full strength - as a nasal rinse. i will tell you that it does sting a bit for a few minutes after but it helps my allergy so much i don;t care. I would suggest if you try it that you first use the water after letting it sit for half the 15 minutes it's effective for before using. See if it bothers you too much. I also did this after i got a cold when someone sneezed right in my face. After i rinsed my sinus using the full strength cleaning solution my cold went away NOW. i drink this ozonated cleaning solution water every day and have been doing this for quite awhile.
I always process my water as if to drink in the water treatment machine first and then use that same water to make the cleaning solution which i then drink.
i try to always drink it on an empty stomach. I will say - IT definitely ENERGIZES me ! A noticeable effect.

It does not upset my stomach or cause me any distress whatsoever.

The Nasal rinse stings a bit at full strength but for me the benefit is clear .. i am allergic to cats and live with three which i adore.
The nasal wash mediates and moderates my allergic reponse to cats very effectively.

There are many therapies on the net for drinking ozonated water and that is what this machine does to the water(ozonates it) to make it into a cleaning solution - well that plus filter it a bit ..
nothing more ..

Google it if you're unsure ..

I'm not a doctor - just a user sharing opinion .. i don't think the water from these machines CAN hurt - no matter what you do with it ..
Safe and
Happy Holidays people

I use the sanitizer water for mouth and oral cleansing, rinse, gargle, skin spray, hair rinse, foot and hand soak, wound cleansing, nasal rinse, and even, yes, as an addition to enema and douche solutions (mainly for candida albicans). Probably other things as well I just can't recall as I have had my unit for about 3-4 years. I definitely am not a doctor, but have been interested in, studied, and practiced natural and so-called "alternative" health remedies in my own life for decades. My opinion? I personally consider the FDA to be the jackbooted thug enforcers for their corporate and AMA masters that I hold responsible for keeping amazing healing remedies like Super-Oxygen therapies, among countless others w/low profit/patent-ability, out of "mainstream" medicine. drink the sanitizing water??!!! very bad idea.

you are killing all the GOOD bacteria in your digestive tract (about 7 lbs of them in the average person) that are essential to your stomach's digestion, including those that produce Vitamin k.

That is setting you up for many bad problems, plus giving over the now unoccupied territory to the first truly nasty bug that discovers it has your digestive tract all to itself, with no competition from the beneficial bacteria that protect you in this manner also.

They are quite clear on this blog - don't swallow ozonated water!

My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I

I just received the machine yesterday. I installed the filter, plugged it in and filled the bottle with tap water. As it was advised on the instruction manual, I wanted to run the machine before using it for the first time. Unfortunately I keep getting an F7 code. I followed the instruction on the troubleshooting section of unplugging it and let it stand for 5 minutes. I tried different outlets in the house and even using a serge protector, but keep getting the same message. What should I do?

I've been using the Lotus Food Sanitizing System for years. It's displaying an F6 Error Code. What does that mean? Thank you. Ellen
